RESOLUTION 96-15
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF
WESTLAKE, TEXAS, IN SUPPORT OF REMOVING THE SUNSET
PROVISION FOR THE CRIME CONTROL AND PREVENTION ACT.
WHEREAS, through the creation of the Crime Control and Prevention District
Act by the Legislature of State of Texas, municipalities have been empowered to address
the criminal justice issues from a community-based funding source; and
WHEREAS, the legislative intent of allowing municipalities to establish special
crime control districts to fund the increasing cost of fighting crime and protecting citizens
has been successfully achieved by many municipalities through the creation of these
districts; and
WHEREAS, by removing the 5 -year sunset provision of the Crime Control and
Prevention District Act, municipalities will be able to ensure the continued success of the
activities funded through special districts; and
WHEREAS, as the population of Texas becomes increasingly urban, the burden
of local government to protect our citizens from criminals and to preserve safe livable
neighborhoods for all people including our elderly and children is critical to the future of
our state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board .of Aldermen of the
Town of Westlake, Texas does hereby strongly support removing the sunset provision
from the Crime Control and Prevention District Act (Article 2370c-4, Vernon's Texas
Civil Statutes).
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Westlake
this 14th day of October, 1996.
