RESOLUTION 96-9
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF
WESTLAKE, TEXAS, APPROVING VARIANCES TO THE SIGN ORDINANCE
FOR AN EXTERIOR SIGN AT 6 CAMPUS CIRCLE, SOLANA; AND
DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, Maguire -Thomas Partners has requested that the Town of Westlake
grant variances to its sign ordinance for an exterior sign at 6 Campus Circle, Solana, in
Westlake; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen has conducted a joint public hearing with
the Planning and Zoning Commission and has received a recommendation concerning
the variances from the Planning and Zoning Commission.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of the
Town of Westlake, Texas:
SECTION 1: That a variance be granted to Maguire -Thomas Partners permitting
PrimeCo to install a logo sign of 29.4 square feet on the exterior of 6 Campus Circle,
Solana, Westlake, Texas in accordance with the drawing attached to this resolution.
SECTION 2: That a variance be granted to Maguire -Thomas Partners permitting
PrimeCo to install a logo sign with letters of 2 feet, 6 inches in height on the exterior of 6
Campus Circle, Solana, Westlake, Texas in accordance with the drawing attached to this
resolution.
SECTION 3: That this resolution shall become effective upon its passage and
approval.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Westlake
this 12"' day of August, 1996.

RE: Variance Request for A Sign for
PrimeCo, Solana
Background
According to the Variance Application, the applicant is requesting permission to
add a building sign on the office building located at 6 Campus Circle in Solana.
The proposed sign is comprised of the word "PrimeCo". This proposed sign
comprises 29.4 square feet, with letters which are 30 inches tall. This exceeds
the area allowed in the sign ordinance of 24 square feet, by 5.4 square feet, or
22.5%, and the allowed letter height of 12 inches by 250%.
The requested sign includes a short name, and therefore is proportionally taller,
without the corresponding increase in sign area. The increase in sign area is
similar to the CitiCorp sign which is 28 s.f.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the application be approved based on the fact that it is in
character and in scale with other signs in Solana.
