ITEM:
Consider appointments to the Westlake Academy Foundation Board of Directors.
BACKGROUND:
The Bylaws adopted by the Board of Aldermen on February 24, 2003 established 5 positions on
the Westlake Academy Foundation. Chairman Michelle Corson has identified several members
of the area that have expressed willingness to serve on the Board. The Board of Aldermen are
asked to appoint those they believe will best serve the Foundation.
The following summarizes the persons who have agreed to serve as directors of the Westlake
Academy Foundation. All are important and bring something different to the group. The Board
of Aldermen is to consider approving them as Directors of the Westlake Academy Foundation:
• Felly Bradley — Represents long-term Westlake resident constituency. Experienced at
successfully launching community/service organizations. Significant knowledge of
Westlake, the vision of the school, and the residents of the community.
® Steve Yetts — Executive at Discovery Land Corporation. Responsible for the development
and management of the Vaquero master -planned community, as well as others, including
Timarron. Experienced in school foundation work; formerly served on the Carroll
Education Foundation. Well connected to the corporate community and politically sensitive.
® Becky Rogers — Soon-to-be resident of Westlake, children will attend the Academy.
Actively serving the Town on the Texas Student Housing Corporation and involved in other
charitable activities. Has access to professional athletes and can be of great help in
fundraising. Known and liked by the Town.
® Mike Abbott — General Manager of Vaquero. Extremely well -liked by members and well
known at similar clubs across the country. High service level awareness and comfortable
dealing with high net worth individuals. Will be especially helpful in planning the
fundraising gala and other events.
® Juan Fontanes — Resident of Glenwyck Farms. Actively involved with the Town through
the Arbor Day Committee. Represents the Glenwyck constituency. Has one child that will
be attending the Academy. Career is in customer engagements for a global computer
software company.
®Dana McGowan — Property owner at Vaquero and future resident. Currently lives in the
Park Cities/M Streets area of Dallas. Is a corporate environmental attorney, extremely
polished and dynamic. Very well connected and will extend our reach beyond the Northeast
Tarrant County area. Husband, Greg, was instrumental in bringing Vaquero to Westlake.
(They plan to move to Westlake within the next couple of years and begin raising a family).
Jim Roberts — Communications Director at Fidelity, serves on the Fidelity Foundation,
responsible for making grants to worthwhile causes. Has contributed to Meals on Wheels
and represents the corporate constituency in Westlake.
® Vanessa Van Trease — Currently lives in Flower Mound and is married to a prominent
builder of $ 1 — 3 million homes in our area. Is a real estate broker, connected in high
income areas, including the Park Cities, Northeast Tarrant County and Flower Mound. Will
be moving to Westlake in the next year or two as their 4 -year old daughter approaches
school age and eager to contribute to the community. Is expecting their second child (a son)
in October. Very well connected with influential people, creative and dynamic, comes
across well and is comfortable in high dollar negotiations.
