Memo
To: School Board
From: Trent Petty, CEO
Subject: Regular Meeting of June 23, 2003
Date: June 18, 200)
ITEM
Consider a resolution allowing the CEO of the school to enter into an interlocal
Z='
agreement with the Region IV Education Service Center to become a member of the
purchasing cooperative.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval.
BACKGROUND
If a school makes a purchase of over$25,000, it must allow bids to be submitted.
Westlake Academy is preparing to purchase a number of supplies such as writing
utensils,paper, and miscellaneous consumable products.
Region IV in the Houston area has formed a purchasing cooperative in which the names
of companies who have already completed the bid process are compiled to create a
master list of vendors. The cooperative is available to all school districts and charter
schools in Texas. This would be a great opportunity for the Academy to save money and
time. Registering with the cooperative would be beneficial both now as the school is
gearing up for the first year, as well as in the future, when timely purchasing decisions
will be imperative.
Joining the cooperative is free and requires an Interlocal Agreement to be passed by the
Board of Alderman.
