Consider a resolution authorizing the CEO of Westlake Academy to enter into a contract with
Paper Plate, Inc. for hot lunch catering services for Westlake Academy.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends approval.
BACKGROUND:
The kitchen in the elementary school section of the school is not designed to be a food
preparation kitchen. Therefore,Academy staff prepared a request for proposals for the catering
for hot lunch services and let the information out this summer. Because of the location of the
school and the small number of students we will be servicing, we received zero bids by the due
date. Staff then worked exclusively with a catering company we knew had a good reputation
with in the education arena and who services over 20 schools in the DFW metroplex to see if
there was a mutually beneficial arrangement that could be created.
The result of this negotiation is the attached food services contract. Westlake Academy will pay
$1.95 per student lunch ordered exclusive of the beverage to Paper Plate Inc.. Orders for the
lunches will be made electronically by parents a week in advance through a secure website
located within the Westlake Academy website (yet to be developed by Kaleidoscope, Inc, but to
be in place before school starts). Hot lunches prepared at a remote location will be delivered
daily and served by a Paper Plate staff member.
