HomeMy WebLinkAboutWA Resolution 22-07 To approve waiver for the bad weather days for the 2021-2022 school yearWESTLAKE ACADEMY RESOLUTION 22-07 A RESOLUTION OF THE WESTLAKE ACADEMY BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO APPROVE WAIVER FOR THE BAD WEATHER DAYS FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR. WHEREAS, the State of Texas requires public schools to comply with Federal and State laws, guidelines, and procedures; and, WHEREAS, the State of Texas requires district and open enrollment charter schools to provide 75,600 instructional minutes in a school calendar year; and WHEREAS, Westlake Academy experienced three missed school days due to inclement weather and two days due to COVID-19 which prohibited the Academy from meeting the State mandated minutes; and WHEREAS, the State of Texas provides districts and open enrollment charter school with a waiver for instructional absences; and WHEREAS, the State waiver will cover the gap in absences for the 2021-2022 school year; and WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees finds that the passage of this Resolution is in the best interest of the citizens of Westlake as well as the students, their parents, and faculty of Westlake Academy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF WESTLAKE ACADEMY: SECTION 1: That the Board of Trustees of Westlake Academy hereby approves the proposed application for waiver for three bad weather days. SECTION 2: That this Resolution shall become effective upon the date of its passage, but contingent upon approval by the TEA. SECTION 3: If any portion of this resolution shall, for any reason, be declared invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining provisions hereof and the Council hereby determines that it would have adopted this Resolution without the invalid provision.
