HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 04-47 Authorization to Proceed with Changing the Name of Kirkwood Boulevard to Solana BoulevardTOWN OF WESTLAKE RESOLUTION NO. 04-47 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF WESTLAKE, DIRECTING THE TOWN MANAGER TO OBTAIN PERMISSION AND GATHER THE NECESSARY INFORMATION TO CHANGE THE NAME OF KIRKWOOD BOULEVARD IN WESTLAKE TO SOLANA BOULEVARD AND TO BRING BACK A FUTURE ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE FOR THIS RENAMING. WHEREAS, the Town of Westlake is home to Solana, a unique mixed use business, hotel and retail development which houses many Fortune 500 companies doing business in the Town of Westlake; and WHEREAS, The Board of Aldermen recognize and support the continued growth and prosperity of the Solana complex by working with State and local officials to increase visibility and access to the Solana Marriott Hotel and other Solana businesses; and WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen desire to rename Kirkwood Boulevard to Solana Boulevard; and WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen, after passage of this Resolution, shall direct the Town Manager to begin assembling the necessary permissions and providing necessary notifications in order to bring back to the Board for consideration a formal Ordinance to enact this change; and WHEREAS, the Town Manager shall coordinate the changing of this street name with the United States Post Office, and the date of effective change with the Post Office shall be consistent with the placement of new street signs along this roadway; and WHEREAS, the Town shall contact all contracted services that utilize this roadway, including but not limited to telephone, cable, electrical, gas, water, wastewater, and trash collection providers, so that these providers can update their respective databases with the street name change; and WHEREAS, the Town shall coordinate with the Texas Department of Transportation and with Tarrant County by providing these governmental jurisdictions specific notice as to when the new street signs would take effect and coordinating with the Texas Department of Transportation the changing of all exit signage along SH 114 for this roadway's ramps; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF WESTLAKE, TEXAS: SECTION 1: That the recitals set forth above are hereby incorporated herein, adopted by the Town and declared to be true and correct. SECTION 2: That the Town Manager shall immediately begin the process to rename Kirkwood Boulevard in Westlake to Solana Boulevard and bring an Ordinance to that end back to the Board as soon as possible. SECTION 3: That once the Ordinance has been considered and approved by the Board of Aldermen that the street name sign changes at all intersections and along the SH 114 exit ramps shall occur on the same day, after coordinating with the United States Postal Service and other pertinent entities as to the specific date of change. SECTION 4: That all residents and businesses with a Kirkwood Boulevard address must be provided with sufficient time to notify others about the street name change prior to its actual implementation. This time shall be no less than sixty (60) days from the date of the notice sent by the Town. SECTION 5: It is hereby declared to be the intention of the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Westlake, Texas, that sections, paragraphs, clauses and phrases of this Resolution are severable, and if any phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section of this Ordinance shall be declared unconstitutional by the valid judgment or decree of any court of competent jurisdiction, such unconstitutionality shall not affect any of the remaining phrases, clauses, sentences, paragraphs or sections of this Resolution since the same would have been enacted by the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Westlake without the incorporation in this Ordinance of any such unconstitutional phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section. SECTION 6: This Resolution shall become effective upon its passage. PASSED AND APPROVED ON THIS 13t' DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2004.
