HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-22-13 WHPS MinMINUTES OF THE WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY April 22, 2013 Westlake History Museum 3 Village Circle, Suite 104 PRESENT: President Bert Schultz, Megan Brady, Wanda Brewster, Stephen Thornton OTHERS PRESENT: Laurel Mason 1. CALL TO ORDER. President Schultz called the meeting to order at 1:38 P.M. 2. MEETING MINUTES President Schultz reviewed the minutes. MOTION: Member Thornton made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Brady seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT The Treasurer's report was not read as Member Layton was absent. 4. MEMBERSHIP REPORT The Membership Report was not read as Member Layton was absent. S. Old Business a) Historical Marker Dedication Day — 30 people attended the day, and there were proclamations from Tarrant County and the Town of Westlake. The representatives there were Mayor Wheat and Trent Petty, former Westlake Town Manager and Westlake Academy Superintendant. WHPS Minutes 4/22/2013 Page 1 of 3 b) Arbor Day — Members Brady and Brewster discussed. $25 - $30 was collected for the Poppy program. There was 1 membership renewal. The possibility of a give- away for next year was discussed. 6. NEIN BUSINESS a) Decoration Day Program —The Board discussed the timeline of events. There will be a bike parade dependent upon school feedback. There will be art displays by each school section, PYP, MYP, and DP. Member Thornton will discuss with Troy where the trees should go (11 trees total from the past and 4 are dead). Megan will work on a postcard. MOTION: President Schultz made a motion to proceed with the bounce house, cotton candy machine, various items for decor, and the pies. It was seconded by Member Brewster, and the Board approved the motion. b) Fall Historical Marker Dedication — President Schultz discussed 2 options for the Fall Historical Markers: Star Stagecoach Route or Westlake and Cross Timbers. Circle T Ranch declined a historical marker in front, and the Thrasher House also declined to have a marker. The new Board will have to decide which way to proceed. President Schultz will help facilitate the marker. c) Board of Directors— Board Members not returning are Jim Budarf, Megan Brady, Kristi Layton, and Bert Schultz. Jon White has expressed interest in a Board position, and Jared Greenwood has also expressed interest, possibly as President. d) Various other New Business Items — Wanda Brewster sworn in by Ginger Awtry from the Town of Westlake. Laurel Mason discussed a Book/Membership combo as a possibility to get more members. Having a workshop for Membership drive ideas was discussed. Member Thornton is looking into new video equipment. He will consult with Allan Heath and come back with a proposal. 7. NEXT WHPS BOARD MEETING DATE The next meeting will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Museum. MOTION: Member Brewster made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Brady seconded the motion. The motion carried.
