RESOLUTION NO. 07-16
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF
WESTLAKE AUTHORIZING THE RETAINAGE OF ARCHITECTURAL
SERVICES TO IMMEDIATELY BEGIN DESIGN OF A PERFORMING ARTS
AND SCIENCE CENTER TO BE USED BY THE TOWN OF WESTLAKE AND
WESTLAKE ACADEMY.
WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen believe that a public need exists to support
the construction of a new public facility that would provide space for the visual and
performing arts as well as science laboratory classroom space for Westlake Academy;
and
WHEREAS, the Westlake Academy Foundation has begun a capital campaign to
raise money to completely fund this new facility and reimburse the Town up to $5
million for design and construction of this facility, and
WHEREAS, in order to accommodate a desired Fall 2008 opening date, the
Board has chosen to support the construction schedule by immediately contracting for
architectural and design services; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Westlake has begun analysis of a potential future debt
issue from which the proceeds would reimburse architecture and engineering services
now secured by the Town as well as a portion of the facility construction costs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF
THE TOWN OF WESTLAKE, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the above findings are hereby found to be true and correct and
are incorporated herein in the entirety.
SECTION 2. The Board of Aldermen hereby directs the Town Manager and
Town Attorney to prepare necessary documents to secure architectural services to
immediately begin design of the Performing Arts and Science Center and prepare a
reimbursement resolution for Board consideration which will reimburse these and other
eligible project costs from the proceeds of a future bond sale.
SECTION 3. The cost to retain architectural services to begin the design work is
not exceed $10,000.00 before the execution of a contract by the Board of Aldermen.
