Value Engineering Solutions to Budget Challenges

Case Study #2:
New Residence Halls A & B
$4.40 per square foot savings to budget
The initial design and budget was based
on a conventional steel structure. This
was well over the Owner's budget.
Steele & Freeman initiated value
engineering alternatives, including
changing to a Castellated Beam
structure. The finished building quality
and appearance were not compromised
by the value engineering initiatives. The
Castellated Beam structure actually
aided in the overhead rough-in process
by allowing piping and ductwork to pass
through the beams.
