HomeMy WebLinkAboutAM ZBA Variance for Fire Station TOWN OF WESTLAKE MEMO To: Members of the Zoning Board of Adjustment From: Trent Petty, Town Manager Greg Tucker, Emergency Services Coordinator Jeff Williams, Town Engineer 1 Subject: Meeting of June 12, 2002 Date: June 5, 2002 ITEM: Consider application V-02-04 filed by the Town requesting the following variances: 1. To allow a temporary portable building to provide office and housing for the firemen on duty on the site. 2. Waiver of side yard building setbacks due to temporary status. 3. Waiver of paving requirement due to temporary status. The lot will be constructed of gravel that can be easily removed when abandoned. 4. A septic system to be allowed, since no sanitary sewer is available at the site. 5. Waiver of landscaping due to temporary status and absence of proper irrigation. RECOMMENDATIONS: Based on the immediate need and temporary nature of the facility, the following variances are recommended for approval. The variances are recommended to be allowed for two (2) years and shall be re-evaluated by the Zoning Board of Adjustment if necessary upon expiration of the two year term. BACKGROUND: The Town has implemented fire/EMS services for the Town effective June 1, 2002. The staff is currently housed in the offices downstairs until we can provide more appropriate and functional accommodations. The location of the move in building to accomplish this task is on Dove Road at the site of the old Keller pump station. A vicinity map and site layout is attached. After the temporary building is set, we will begin the process of providing a building to house the trucks to prevent freezing. The temporary location will be necessary for two years.
