Westlake Academy’s Philosophy
•Westlake Academy prides itself on serving the needs of all
learners. Part of meeting the needs of our special
education students is ensuring that all of our policies and
procedures align with the most recent legislation and are
easily accessible by all stakeholders.
Legal Framework Obligation
•On February 5, 2018, Westlake Academy updated a number of policies
and procedures associated with the Legal Framework as required by the
Texas Education Code and placed all policies into one manual.
•Annually, these policies must be reviewed.
•The Texas Charter School Association provides direction to Charter
Schools.
•Updated policies reflect current legislation.

•Least Restrictive Environment Policy
•Monitoring and Compliance Policy
•Referral for Possible Special Education Services Policy

Other Modifications
•Several other policies were slightly altered by TCSA.
•All policies along need to be adopted by the board.
Annual Review
•Moving forward…
•The Academy will continue working with the TCSA
•The Academy will review all special education policies
in August and September.
•The Academy will present policy updates at the
September or October Board of Trustees Meeting.
