HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-01-18 WHPS Min MINUTES OF THE WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY May 1, 2018 Council Chambers 1500 Solana Blvd., Building 7,Suite 7100 Westlake,Texas 76262 PRESENT: President Stephen Thornton, Becky Fisher,Tom Miller, Kim Morris, and Jon White ABSENT: Trish Rapp, Paula Thornton and Daniel Zipperlen GUESTS: Ginger Awtry, Mike Duboise,Trisha Hoelscher and Troy Meyer 1. CALL TO ORDER. President Thornton called the meeting to order at 6:41 P.M. 2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON APRIL 10,2018. Member Fisher read the minutes. MOTION: Member Morris made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Miller seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT. Member Morris distributed the Statement of Activities as prepared by Melinda Brown of the Town of Westlake. She briefly reviewed the new format and highlighted the lifetime membership revenue. A budget of around $7,000 per year would allow us to have enough to cover the expenses of our yearly events. 4. MEMBERSHIP REPORT. Ginger Awtry and Member Morris reviewed the membership list to confirm addresses for individual and corporate members. A new WHPS membership letter on a newly formatted letterhead was distributed. The online registration may be available soon. An opportunity has occurred to place some copies of the Westlake: The Little Town that Could for sale in a historical museum in Old Town Keller. S. OLD BUSINESS. None 6. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS. Decoration Day: Troy Meyer reported the Boy Scouts have agreed to make the cobblers. Either the scouts or Troy Meyer will grill the hot dogs. He will purchase all the food and supplies for Decoration Day except for ice cream and watermelon which will be purchased by Member Fisher. He reviewed the Decoration Day Stage Program. The singer of the national anthem will be Carrie Barton.The suggestion was made to have the veterans' stand and be recognized. Mayor Wheat will read the Old Glory statement before the retirement of the flag. Red and white stripes from other disassembled flags will be passed out to attendees to participate in the retirement of the flag ceremony. President Thornton and Member Miller will work on the stage and set up before Monday, May 28th. Flags and flagpoles have been ordered and should be delivered shortly. Troy Meyer will continue to work on the Sounds of War presentation for next year. Historical Marker and Dedication: No discussion Simply Westlake: No discussion Future Ideas and Purchases: Ordering twenty corrugated plastic signs for Decoration Day was discussed. MOTION: Member Morris made a motion we allocate up to$360 for the printing of plastic corrugated signs for Decoration. Member Miller seconded. The motion carried. Poppy Distribution: President Thornton brought jars for poppies and donations, as well as,flags, posters and brochures about Buddy Poppies. 7. ADJOURNMENT: President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. MOTION: Member Miller made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member White seconded the motion. The motion carried. President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 7:50 P.M. The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society Board will be Tuesday,June 5, 2018, at 6:30 PM at the Council Chambers, 1500 Solana Blvd., Building 7, Suite l 7100, Westlake,Texas 76262.
