HomeMy WebLinkAboutPublic Art Committee Presentation 04-30-18PUBLIC ART COMPETITION UPDATE AND PROGRESS •Art like Landscape is a determinism of Town form that arises from the location and culture of the place •Economic determinism alone produces a sameness…ubiquitous/ inorganic assimilation of place in a regional fabric = suburbanization •Westlake has taken measures to make its natural fabric and historic fabric more influential. For example the Knolls of Solana, landmark landforms, waterways, etc.as identified in the Comprehensive Plan. •These derive from the history and landscape •Now ART which derives from the current culture…thereby completing the connection between past, present, and future. •Westlake is unique as it comes to the threshold of great change and is yet largely unbuilt. •Therefore Art is not remedial…but…can be form giving.
