Re.: Follow up from the August 12th School Board Meeting Board of Trustees and Mr. Brymer, Per your request, I have followed up on two points from the August 12th School Board meeting. I have paraphrased your questions below, followed by my findings.
Question 1: Noting the rigor and high level of competency needed for DP HL Mathematics, how many students can we
expect to take DP HL Math comparatively with world averages?
Approximately 14% of students in the world take HL Mathematics. If we apply this percentage to the population of a future Westlake Academy DP cohort (n=75); we would expect to see approximately 11 students in this course. In terms of success in HL mathematics, there is a 71% world pass rate. Again, using this percentage with a future Westlake Academy DP cohort, we could expect 7 – 8 of our students to pass.
Question 2: When available, can you please provide an update on how our 2013 DP students scored comparatively to world
averages? Please see the attached table. This table has been updated, noted in yellow, from the report I provided on August 12th. Out of the 15 courses, the 2013 Westlake Academy DP students, scored, on average, higher than the world average in 7 of the courses.
