EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (INCLUDING APPLICABLE ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY)
The purpose of this report is to amend the 2016-2017 STAAR/EOC discuss/report that was
presented to the Board of Trustees at the August 7, 2017 meeting. In reviewing our data, I realized
that we reported our preliminary data for 2014-2015, 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years.
Although 2016-2017 data is still in the preliminary stage, final data reports are available for 2014-
2015 and 2015-2016 school years and have been reported to the board annually in the Academy’s
Accountability reports. Over the years we have established a practice of comparing our current
preliminary data to previous years’ preliminary data. I believe moving forward that we should
compare our current year’s preliminary data with our comprehensive data. This is a more accurate
practice. Preliminary data does not include special populations and retest data. Our
comprehensive data is published in January in our State Accountability report.
It is important to note that minor fluctuations in the data exist between the Academy’s preliminary
STAAR and EOC data and the Academy’s accountability data due to the following reasons:
• Data in some of our Student Success Initiative grade levels were adjusted up. Students in
SSI grade levels (grade 5 and grade 8) have multiple opportunities to test in math and
reading. The preliminary data does not reflect the results of our retested students due to
the fact that our preliminary data arrives before these results have been taken and/or scored.
• Data in some of our EOC areas was adjusted down due to the fact that final data includes
any student who took the EOC out of grade level. For an example, a ninth grader taking
an EOC because he/she did not pass it in grade 8.
• Data fluctuated due to absences. Data regarding students who were absent on testing days
are not included in preliminary data.
In addition to these fluctuations, the original reported data included an inverted number and an
incorrect number. The data chart attached reflects the corrections.
RECOMMENDATION
Review of the update on state assessment results.

American College Testing (ACT). The subsequent trends will be determined over the last five
years of Westlake Academy student performance. These trends will be discussed in the context
of overall student performance in the state of Texas and also across the nation. Westlake
Academy student college readiness will also be compared to local public and private secondary
schools. The subsequent performance trends will be discussed in the context of the current
literature concerning the use of college and future readiness metrics.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (INCLUDING APPLICABLE ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY)
Westlake Academy continues to experience an increase in enrollment interest since our school
opened in 2003. Our Westlake resident population is also growing and we welcome families who
have relocated to the Town in order to qualify for resident status and enroll their student(s) in our
school. This report is twofold –it provides information on our leavers data, an estimated number
of the potential enrollment numbers per neighborhood/Westlake, and a review of the predictive
data from our independent enrollment studies. We will also have data on our existing number of
housing units and the pending developments based on the number of platted lots.
Staff reviewed the various student enrollment studies the Board had commissioned in the past and
used a multiplier based on our moderate growth pattern of .65 to .70 along with an average
predicted number of eligible students per household of 1.07.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff Recommends review and discussion regarding the data.
