HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-28-13 WHPS MinMINUTES OF THE WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY January 28, 2013 Westlake History Museum 3 Village Circle, Suite 104 PRESENT: President Bert Schultz, Megan Brady, Wanda Brewster, Kristi Layton, Karen Stoltenberg, Stephen Thornton 1. CALL TO ORDER. President Schultz called the meeting to order at 1:35 P.M. 2. MEETING MINUTES Member Stoltenberg reviewed the minutes. MOTION: Member Thornton made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Layton seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT Member Layton read the treasurer's report. The only difference from last month was that there was a book sale to the mayor of Guatemala. President Schultz and Member Layton will check with Debbie Piper about the mailings and expenses. MOTION: Member Stoltenberg made a motion to approve the treasurer's report as read. Member Brady seconded the motion. The motion carried. 4. MEMBERSHIP REPORT President Schultz presented the membership form to the board. Member Brady and Member Brewster made the suggestion to have pictures from past events to make the form more attention grabbing, and to also list the current board members. President Schultz will do a cover letter draft with pictures and send to the board members for approval. The package will be sent out February 15 to all WHPS members and all Town of Westlake residents. WHPS Minutes 1/28/2013 Page 1 of 3 a) Paigebrooke Home Tour and Reception — The event was a success with 34 people in the guest book. y aj Spring Living History Presentation —The presentation will be Tuesday, March 5, 7:00 — 8:30 PM at the Westlake Academy Performance Hall. President Schultz wants the Board to do a "Full Court Press" to promote the event. He will email the Board assignments. b) Historical Marker Dedication Day —The Dedication day will be held Saturday, April 6, at either 10:30 or 1:30 PM at the Westlake Academy gazebo near the circle drive, and we will be dedicating the marker to be installed in honor of The Possum Trot School at the corner of Dove Rd. and Pearson Ln. It will be held at the school since there is no parking at this location and in celebration of Westlake Academy's 10 year anniversary. c) Decoration Day Program — Decoration Day will be held on Monday, May 27, 6:00 — 7:30PM at the Westlake Academy Gym and Commons Area. President Schultz excitedly announced our keynote speaker, Brian Fleming, wounded Purple Heart recipient from the war in Afghanistan and noted speaker and author. He has agreed to speak at Decoration Day for $250 when he normally charges $5000. The Patriot Guard and the Liberty Bell have also been invited. It will be held at WA this year only, as Mr. Fleming needs power for his power point presentation. We hope to have Andy Sedino do the catering. dj Board Member Recruitment— We are hopeful that Debra Heath might consider joining the WHPS Board. The next meeting will be held Monday, February 25, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Museum. MOTION: Member Brewster made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Layton seconded the motion.
