PRESENT: President Stephen Thornton,Wanda Brewster, Becky Fisher,Tom Miller,Trish Rapp, Paula
Thornton,and Jon White
ABSENT. Daniel Zipperlen

1. CALL TO ORDER.
President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:10 P.M.
2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON January 5,2017.
Member Thornton read the minutes. President Thornton asked for a motion to approve.
MOTION: Member Brewster made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Thornton
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
3. TREASURER'S REPORT.
Income totaling$275 has been received since our last meeting consisting of 5 membership
renewals and a book purchase.
4. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS.
Membership Report:
Member Brewster sent out a renewal letter to those who have been members within the last
five years. Several people have responded and sent in their payment.
Members' Reception:
Members Thornton and Brewster met and have prepared two options for the invitations which
will be presented for a vote. After consideration of the cost and appearance of each,the board
agreed on a white embossed invitation. The board will stay after the meeting to address
envelopes so Member Brewster will be able to mail the invitations as soon as they have been
printed.
Each board member will bring an hors d'oeuvre for the reception. The Reception Committee
members will meet the week of February 13th to plan the event. President Thornton will secure
live musical entertainment. Literature describing WHPS and renewal forms will be displayed,as
well as,a poster of Trish Biddle's painting of The Classic Car Show. Pictures and descriptions of
other WHPS events will also be shown.
Motion: Member White made a motion to give a Legacy Award to Bert Schultz at the Members'
Reception. Member Miller seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Motion: Member Thornton made a motion to give Jarrod Greenwood the Volunteer of the Year
Award for his work on The Classic Car Show. Member Rapp seconded the motion.The
motion carried.
Marker Dedication:
The actual marker will be ordered this week in order to be available for the dedication on
Saturday, March 25, 2017,at 2 p.m. President Thornton and Members Brewster, Rapp and
Thornton will visit next week with each resident of Mahotea Boone to let them know of the
dedication date and time.
Guest Awtry has sent President Thornton an address list of the residents of Maohtea Boone to
give the option to mail information about the marker dedication.
Decoration Day:
President Thornton would like to have someone chair the Decoration Day celebration.
Discussion revolved around the tasks to be completed for the event which will be held on
Monday, May 29th, at 6 p.m. President Thornton will provide Member Miller with a list of things
to be done so Member Miller can delegate jobs to the rest of the board.
WHPS Website&Social Media:
No report as Member Zipperlen was absent.
Simply Westlake:
Member Rapp will write a "Did You Know?"article for the magazine and discuss WHPS annual
events.
Future Ideas and Purchases:
President Thornton presented the idea to purchase banners and a canopy with sides for use at
future WHPS events.The banner cost is$7 per square foot. A banner 12 ft. by 2.5 ft. is$210
and a 6 ft.x 3 ft. is$126. President Thornton would like to have a 12 ft. by 12 ft. canopy with
three sides. President Thornton will do more research on costs and present information at the
next meeting.
Member Thornton suggested WHPS be a sponsor for the Westlake Academy Gallery Night.
Other members requested more information on sponsorship levels. Member Thornton will
check on the different levels available. Member Brewster researched online that the deadline
has passed to be printed in the program.
Motion: Member Rapp made a motion to make the minimum donation not to exceed$500 to
sponsor Westlake Academy Gallery Night. Member Miller seconded the motion. The motion
carried.
6. ADJOURNMENT:
President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
MOTION: Member White made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Rapp seconded
the motion. The motion carried.
President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 9:10 P.M.
The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society Board will be
Tuesday March 7, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Council Chambers for the Town of Westlake.
