President Stephen Thornton,Wanda Brewster, Becky Fisher,Tom Miller, Paula Thornton and Jon White ABSENT. Daniel Zeppelin 1. CALL TO ORDER. President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:12 P.M. 2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON MAY 3,2016. Member Thornton read the minutes. President Thornton asked for a motion to approve. MOTION: Member White made a motion to approve the minutes with corrections. Member Fisher seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT. No new information since the last meeting. Member Brewster distributed WHPS Financials for the year of 2015-2016,as well as,the Town's Statement of Activities dated May 31, 2016. 4. OLD BUSINESS. Decoration Day: This year'event was held at Westlake Academy due to inclement weather. President Thornton expressed his preference for holding the event outdoor at the I.O.O.F Cemetery rather than in- door at Westlake Academy. The estimated attendance was 75 people including the Boy Scouts and the Volunteer Fire Department. President Thornton and Member Thornton both expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the WHPS board members in making Decoration Day suc- cessful. Member Thornton suggested for future Decoration Day celebrations that the Power- point presentation be discontinued once the program begins. a S. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS. Membership Report: A mailing is planned to be sent to current members regarding membership renewal.Also,all Westlake residents will receive the WHPS informational trifold when completed. WHPS Website&Social Media: Simply Westlake: President Thornton suggested members send in photos to Simply Westlake to allow the magazine a wider selection of event photos from which to choose. Constitution Day: Constitution Day is September 17th and falls on a Saturday this year. Mayor Wheat had pre- viously suggested holding the event at the school. Member Brewster looked up the rules for ob- serving Constitution Day which stated when it falls on a weekend,that the observation of the date is then moved to a week day. September 11 Memorial: Trophy Club Fire Department is to receive a piece from The World Trade Center buildings. Member Thornton suggested contacting Trophy Club for a possible combined observance of September 11th (9/11). President Thornton reminded the board that the original idea of the Westlake September 11th (9/11) Memorial was to meet in the location annually and to add to the memorial. Calendar of Upcoming Events: September 11th (9/11) Memorial September 16th Constitution Day October 15th Classic Car Show February 23rd WHPS Membership Reception April 1st or 22nd are possible dates for Dedication Day of Historical Marker for Mahotea Boone. May 29th Decoration Day. Future Ideas and Purchases: President Thornton mentioned purchasing a new video camera to improve event recordings. 6. ADJOURNMENT President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. MOTION: Member White made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Thornton seconded 4 the motion. The motion carried. President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 8:39 P.M. The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society Board will be Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 7:00 PM.
