HomeMy WebLinkAboutAM Lighting recommendations for west parking lot of Academy campus Town of Westlake Memo To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Board of Aldermen From: Trent Petty, Town Manager Subject: Workshop meeting of February 26, 2007 Date: February 21, 2007 ,le J!% ITEM Discuss lighting recommendations for west parking lot of Academy campus. BACKGROUND With Westlake Academy adding 9th grade in the fall of 2006, the temporary parking lot was constructed to accommodate pick-up and drop-off for the 6th-9th grade students. The temporary parking lot also added 44 parking spaces, plus 4 handicap spaces to provide additional parking for academy and town events. Two months after the temporary lot was completed it was recommended to add lighting. It has now been recommended to install temporary walkway lighting with one temporary, wooden light pole. The electrical four-inch conduit was extended from the gym building at the time the parking lot was constructed to ensure any future need for power. TDIndustries provided the best solution with 9 low voltage lights along the walkway on the south side of the parking lot. An additional circuit will be pulled from the gym building to accommodate the lighting. A second contractor will be needed to set a twenty-foot wood pole at the end of the walkway leading into the lower parking area. A recommendation is needed from the Board for their preference on the following: type/style of temporary lighting needed for the walking path; lighting function via photocell, timer or by the WebControl system currently utilized; and addition of a GFI plug on the base of the temporary pole. TI) Industries quote and example of lighting are attached. FUNDING The necessary funds to cover the additional temporary lighting can be taken after budget review from the following: GF Dept. 17; line item Electrical R&M - $2500; GF Dept. 17; line item Contract Exterminator- $1,600. The $1600 can be re-classed along with the mid-year budget amendments coming up in the next few months. The total cost of the project should not exceed $4,100 based on quotes received. The funds were found in the above accounts due to several occurrences this fiscal year. Contract Exterminator money can be reduced since we had a unanticipated heavy treatment applied during the Christmas holiday that was necessary due to a scorpion invasion. The number of smaller treatments originally planned should be reduced this fiscal year due to the coverage provided by this major pest control application. Additional funds from the Electrical R&M are now available due to the following: additional expense for Tree Lighting taken from Visitor's Association as allowed; reduced number of light pole repairs, classroom breakers, fixtures repairs this first half of fiscal year; budgeted electrical wiring and installation was included in accepted DPS trailer bid which was not known at budget adoption. A break down of the $4100 maximum in costs are estimated below: Pathway lighting install - $2,800 Wooden pole installed-$500 Pole light with arm-$300 -$550 Plug timer/photo controller-$250
