Consider a Resolution(s) authorizing a contract with TDhidustries, Vector Concepts, Modemfold
Doors & Specialties, AEC, Inc., Dallas Door and Supply Co., Andrew Joseph Co. or Nortec
Systems (not known until Monday, May 8th at 10:00 am for Bid Opening) and Medco
Construction for the remodeling and construction work related to the Phase II
Remodeling/Conversion of Pod E Civic Campus from office space to additional classrooms and
related space.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Staff recommends approval.
BACKGROUND
The Phase 11 Remodeling/Conversion of Pod E Civic Campus is necessary to accommodate the
necessary expansion of Grade 9 and related classrooms for Westlake Academy. This
construction work includes the remodeling of the existing town office space, located on the east
side of Pod E which houses the Town Secretary, Texas Student Housing, and the Municipal
Court offices, into 3 additional modular classrooms matching the adjacent existing classrooms.
Additionally, this remodel will include the extension of the school corridor with a new full-
height wall and security door, necessary to separate the school facilities from the Town's office
space located to the east of the foyer. Phase II will also include 31 new high school lockers
located in the Pod G hallway, outside of the Dining Hall. (see attached plans)
The competitive bid process was followed as outlined in the Texas Local Government Code. All
specifications for the work were available to the public and bid procedures properly advertised.
A pre-bid conference was held on March 22, 2006, with a sealed bid opening of April 17, 2006.
All acceptable bids for each trade were reviewed by the Town Attorney. The bids proposed for
contract awards are as follows:
Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Safety—TDIndustries for$26,417
Floor Coverings—Vector Concepts for$11,185
Wall Coverings—AEC, Inc. for$19,500
Doors—Dallas Door and Supply, Company for$10,755
Moveable Partition Walls—Modernfold Doors & Specialties for$22,320
Drywall, Framing, Painting—Andrew Joseph Co. or Nortec Systems(known on May 8th,am)for$
Millwork—MEDC® Construction for$101,986
Additional contractors maybe added at a later date in order to complete the Phase II project.
Work is scheduled to begin June 5, 2006 and the estimated date of completion is August 4, 2006.
FUNDING
The funds to facilitate the Phase II Remodeling/Conversion have been included in the FY
2005/06 budget from the Civic Campus Expansion Capital Project Fund.
Phase II estimated cost is $266,525.
