MINUTES OF THE
WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY
FEBRUARY 2, 2016
Residence of Stephen & Paula Thornton
PRESENT. President Stephen Thornton, Wanda Brewster, Becky Fisher, Tom Miller,
Paula Thornton, Jon White and Daniel Zipperlen.
ABSENT: Laurel Mason and Rob Meyer.
1. CALL TO ORDER
President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.
2. APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 5, 2016.
Member Fisher read the minutes.
MOTION: Member Brewster made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Thornton
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
3. TREASURER'S REPORT.
There were no new income or expenses to report since the January Treasurer's Report.
4. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Membership Reception:
The Marriott has significantly increased their price from last year so Member Thornton
will check into the availability of a home on Paigebrooke for the reception. Mayor Wheat
has graciously agreed to host the reception in her home if needed. Possible dates will be
discussed with the host locations. Member Thornton will begin to contact caterers for the
event.
Historical Marker:
Tentative date for dedication of the Star Stagecoach Line Historical Marker will be
Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 3 p.m. Member Thornton will check with the Town of Westlake
Office for confirmation of this date to prevent conflict with staff schedules. President
Thornton will make plans for refreshments and music.
Membership Report:
During the 2014 - 2015 fiscal year WHPS collected $600 in membership dues. Member
Brewster will prepare an email to be sent to all members announcing Historical Society
future events.
WHPS Website and Social Media:
Member Zipperlen will create a method for membership renewals online via Constant
Contact with the option of using PayPal for paying dues.
Museum and Office Location:
President Thornton will try to talk with Fidelity or other corporate campuses to
see if a museum location can be secured. Two 10 x 10 storage units have been secured
on SH-170 and the rental is being paid by the town to store the contents of the museum.
Simply Westlake:
President Thornton will be writing an article for Simply Westlake about the Westlake
History Museum.
Westlake Academy:
Member Thornton will continue to make contacts with artists and Westlake Academy
faculty to plan events for Grandparents' Day.
Minutes Incomplete:
Member Fisher mentioned the WHPS Minutes book is missing minutes for the months of
March,April, June, July and August of 2015. Also the township needs the same months'
minutes plus the month of May.
6. ADJOURNMENT.
MOTION: Member Brewster made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Miller
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 8:04 P.M.
The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society will be
Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 7:00 P.M. at Westlake Academy.
