HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-05-16 WHPS Min MINUTES OF THE WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY January 5, 2016 Westlake History Museum 3 Village Circle, Suite 104 PRESENT. President Stephen Thornton, Wanda Brewster, Becky Fisher, Paula Thornton and Jon White. ABSENT: Laurel Mason, Rob Meyer, Tom Miller and Daniel Zipperlen OTHERS PRESENT: Susan McFarland 1. CALL TO ORDER. President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:09 P.M. 2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON DECEMBER 1, 2015. Member Fisher read the minutes and several corrections were suggested. MOTION: Member Thornton made a motion to approve the minutes with corrections discussed. Member White seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT. Member Brewster presented the financial report from the Town of Westlake, as well as, her own report which included detail as to whom the checks were written, the amount of each check and the reason for payment. Also, Member Brewster's report covered each WHPS event separately as to income and expenses. The Ending Cash Balance for December 31, 2015 was $8,179, but will decrease by about $1,500 once Mr. Bert Schultz submits the expenses for the Classic Car Show. 4. OLD BUSINESS. Nothing to discuss. 5. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS. Historical Marker: The wording has been approved for the Star Stagecoach marker, but the marker has not been ordered. The location of the marker is to be determined. Membership Report : Member Brewster requested a future meeting of the Membership Committee. She would also like to have a current roster of members. WHPS Website and Social Media: No report was made as Member Zipperlen was absent. Exhibits: No change in exhibits planned. Westlake Academy Participation: Member Thornton will pursue acquiring space at Westlake Academy for Constitution Day and Grandparents' Day for 2016. WHPS/Westlake Checking Account: Discussion delayed. Future Ideas and Purchases: Board Members need to consider the dates for the Members Reception and the Historical Dedication Day. March 4th was proposed as the date for the Members Reception. Alternate dates will be February 26th or March 11 th. President Thornton volunteered to Chair the Members Reception. President Thornton suggested consideration be given as to nominating a Volunteer of the Year. This award will be presented at the Members Reception. Moving of the WHPS Museum: President Thornton received notification from the Town of Westlake that the museum will be moved to a new location. The current owners of the property want the museum to be moved out by the end of the month. Discussion was held on storage options and when a new space would become available. President Thornton will discuss the logistics of the move with Troy Meyer. The decision was made to form a committee to organize moving the Museum and to meet at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Member Jon White volunteered to be the Chair of the Moving Committee. Appreciation was expressed by Member Thornton that WHPS has been able to use the current museum space at no charge. 6. ADJOURNMENT. President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. MOTION: Member Brewster made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Thornton seconded the motion. The motion carried. President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 9:12 P.M.
