MINUTES OF THE
WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY
November 15,2016

PRESENT: President Stephen Thornton, Wanda Brewster, Becky Fisher,Trish Rapp, and Jon White
GUESTS: Jarrod Greenwood and Bert Schultz
ABSENT: Tom Miller, Paula Thornton and Daniel Zipperlen
1. CALL TO ORDER.
President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:14 P.M.
2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON OCTOBER 4,2016.
Member Fisher read the minutes. President Thornton asked for a motion to approve.
MOTION: Member White made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Rapp seconded
the motion. The motion carried.
3. TREASURER'S REPORT.
Member Brewster distributed the WHPS Treasurer's Report stating we finished the fiscal year
2016 with an ending cash balance of$6,124.
There was discussion about ways to promote the sale of the Westlake Historical book to
continue to raise revenue. President Thornton will discuss with Ginger Awtry regarding contacts
at corporate campuses and home builders who might buy or promote the book for customers
and clients. Westlake Academy would also be an entity that should have copies to use as a
reference source.
Jarrod Greenwood is working with the town to develop an online Paypal account to allow people
to register and pay for town events online.
4. OLD BUSINESS.
Westlake Classic Car Show:
Jarrod Greenwood distributed the Revenue and Expenses for the Car Show. There were
significant expenses this year for updating signs, reprinting the sandwich signs and the numbers
for the car spaces. Due to these expenses,that will not have to be repeated next year, our
revenue was$1,280.64.Jarrod Greenwood made a suggestion to add signs at the entrances and
exits of all neighborhoods in Westlake to remind residents of the Car Show.
Bert Schultz complimented Jarrod Greenwood on his hard work to acquire new sponsors as well
as his preparedness and organization for the Car Show. Even though Jarrod Greenwood has sent
a thank you to the sponsors, Bert Schultz recommended WHPS send thank you notes to the
sponsors on our letterhead.
Member Rapp brought up good questions regarding how exhibition cars are to be handled and
how check in day could be made smoother.
Member Fisher commented on all the work and organization put forth by Jarrod Greenwood and
suggested WHPS help out earlier in the process. He said we would be able to help next year
beginning in September.
During the year Jarrod Greenwood handed out flyers at other car shows to advertise the
Westlake Classic Car Show. In November of this year he will send out an email notice to past
participants reminding them to save the date for the following year. He also advertises on
several different car show web sites.
5. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS.
Membership Report:
No report.
2017 Constitution Day:
President Thornton will contact our state representative and the Daughters of the American
Revolution to begin planning Constitution Day. Members White and Brewster confirm that the
constitution is being taught as part of the curriculum.
WHPS Website&Social Media:
No Report.
Simply Westlake:
President Thornton suggested we plan ahead and write articles in advance for the magazine to
have ready to print at the appropriate time.
Stagecoach Hills Tree Lighting:
The Town of Westlake is not planning to do a tree lighting this year. President and Member
Thornton are planning to have a tree lighting at their home and sing carols.
Future Ideas and Purchases:
Discussion delayed until next month.
6. ADJOURNMENT.
President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
MOTION: Member White made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Brewster
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 8:55 P.M.
The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society Board will be
Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 7:00 PM at the home of Stephen and Paula Thornton.
