HomeMy WebLinkAbout10-04-16 WHPS Min `rkz�� J MINUTES OF THE WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY October 4,2016 Council Chambers for Town of Westlake Westlake,Texas 76262 PRESENT: President Stephen Thornton, Becky Fisher,Tom Miller, Paula Thornton and Daniel Zipperlen GUESTS: Jarrod Greenwood and Patrica (Trish) Rapp ABSENT: Wanda Brewster and Jon White 1. CALL TO ORDER. President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M. 2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 6,2016. Member Thornton read the minutes. President Thornton asked for a motion to approve. MOTION: Member Miller made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Thornton seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT. Member Brewster sent the WHPS Statement of Activities report as prepared by the Town of Westlake. The change from last month's report was$330.52 in revenue from Poppy Sales during Decoration Day that will be given to the Veterans. Also, the town paid for the storage of the Historical Society's artifacts. 4. OLD BUSINESS. Constitution Day: President Thornton asked for members'feedback on Constitution Day. Member Thornton called to tell Westlake Academy how appreciative WHPS was of the reception we received from the students. Guest Rapp commented on the impressive number of students who stopped in the Commons to read from the Constitution. Member Thornton has sent pictures from the event as well as an article written by Trish Rapp to Simply Westlake. However, hosting Constitution Day at the school prevented the opportunity for community participation. There is a need to find a more accessible venue for residents to attend. S. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS. Classic Car Show,October 15,2016: Jarrod Greenwood reported on the work he and Bert Schultz have been doing to prepare for the Classic Car Show. He handed out color flyers to advertise the car show in local businesses. Jarrod Greenwood is requesting the town staff sign up to volunteer for 2-hour shifts at the Car Show. President Thornton will talk with someone on the town staff about taking pictures of the cars. Daniel Zipperlen usually sends out social media blasts to advertise the Car Show. He will meet with Ginger Awtry to coordinate. The 15 signs advertising the Car Show are allowed to be put out one week before the event. Floor tiles with laminated numbers will be used to mark parking places for the cars. Job assignments for the Car show were discussed. Jarrod Greenwood distributed copies of three documents to WHPS members. They were entitled 2016 Westlake Classic Car Show Summary, Week of Show To Do List and WHPS Day of Car Show Assignments. These documents detailed plans and assignments as well as a timetable for when tasks were to be completed.Jarrod Greenwood also passed around a sign-up sheet for WHPS members to select their assignments. There are actually three different registration packets: Newly Registered Packet, Returning Participants and Unregistered Participants. Currently 57 people are registered to bring their cars and we anticipate a total of 70 participants. President Thornton, Member Thornton and Trish Rapp will work on creating the trifold for distribution at the Car Show. Jarrod Greenwood has advertised The Car Show on six websites. Historical Marker: The Mahotea Boone Marker has been ordered. The date for the marker's dedication is April 1, 2017. Membership Report: No Report since Member Brewster was absent. WHPS Website&Social Media: Member Zipperlen made a motion to authorize two$20 boosts on social media to advertise the Classic Car Show. MOTION: Member Fisher made a motion to approve the expense. Member Thornton seconded the motion. The motion carried. 6. ADJOURNMENT. President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. MOTION: Member Zipperlen made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Miller seconded the motion. The motion carried. President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 8:41 P.M. The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society Board will be Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 7:00 PM in the Council Chambers of Westlake.
