HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-01-15 WHPS Min MINUTES OF THE WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY DECEMBER 1, 2015 Westlake History Museum 3 Village Circle, Suite 104 PRESENT: President Stephen Thornton, Wanda Brewster, Becky Fisher, Tom Miller, Paula Thornton and Jon White. ABSENT: Laurel Mason, Rob Meyer and Daniel Zipperlen 1. CALL TO ORDER President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:02 P.M. 2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON NOVEMBER 5, 2015. MOTION: Member White made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Miller seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT. There was no Treasurer's Report. 4. OLD BUSINESS. Member Paula Thornton read the Simply Westlake article about the Westlake Historical Preservation Society's Constitution Day. Wording for the historical marker for the Star Stagecoach Line has been finalized and the marker is ready to be ordered. 5. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS. Officers and Chairs: MOTION: Member Brewster nominated Becky Fisher as Secretary. Member Thornton seconded. The motioned carried. President Thornton appointed Member Brewster as Membership Chair. Historical Marker: Discussion and vote delayed. Membership: There was no Membership Report. WHPS Website and Social Media: There was no report as Member Zipperlen was absent. Exhibits: The current Trish Biddle paintings will remain as the exhibit until construction is finished. Westlake Academy Participation: Member Thornton suggested coordinating with Westlake Academy teachers of english and/or history on Grandparents' Day. Have the children ask grandparents about family heirlooms and then have the children prepare a short paper with a picture of the heirloom. WHPS/Westlake Checking Account: President Thornton reported First Financial bank will no longer accept checks made out to WHPS because the account is in the name of the Town of Westlake. For purposes of fundraising, the visibility of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society would be improved if donations could be made directly to the Society. Modification of membership forms and others made need to include WHPS in the memo line. An option would be for the Society to become its own 501.c(3) organization. President Thornton will explore options. Future Ideas and Purchases: The need for a tripod for recording events at a more professional level was discussed. MOTION: Member White made a motion to authorize up to $200 for the purchase of the tripod. Member Thornton seconded the motion. The motion carried. 6. ADJOURNMENT. President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. MOTION: Member Brewster made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member White seconded the motion. The motion carried. President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 8:32 P.M. The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society will be Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 7:00 P.M.
