MINUTES OF THE
WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY
FEBRUARY 3, 2015

PRESENT: President Stephen Thornton,Wanda Brewster, Laurel Mason, Paula Thornton,Jon White,
Daniel Zipperlen

1. CALL TO ORDER.
President Thornton called the meeting to order at 7:04 P.M.
2. REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES OF THE WHPS MEETING HELD ON JANUARY 13,2015.
Member Brewster read the minutes. President Thornton asked for a motion to approve.
MOTION: Member White made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Zipperlen seconded
the motion. The motion carried.
3. TREASURER'S REPORT.
Member Brewster reviewed the January 31, 2015 financial statement. The activities since the
last statement include expenses of$204 for the Westlake Classic Car Show and income of$130
for the sale of 3 history books. The current balance is$7,527.61. President Thornton asked for a
motion to accept the report.
MOTION: Member Zipperlen made a motion to accept the Treasurer's report. Member
Thornton seconded the motion. The motion carried.
4. OLD BUSINESS
Purchase of video camera:
Daniel Zipperlen reported that he has found a good video camera for WHPS to purchase. It is a

Sony HD 1080p video camera, NFC-enabled with built-in wifi transfer and 30x zoom priced at
$278.
MOTION: Member Mason made a motion to authorize purchase of the Sony HD video camera,
an SD card and a tripod for an amount not to exceed$500. Member White seconded the
motion. The motion carried.
S. NEW BUSINESS AND COMMITTEE REPORTS.
Membership Reception:
President Thornton said that planning has begun on a membership reception and annual
meeting. He is presently looking for a venue and tentatively planning the event for March. The
Volunteer of the Year award will be presented at the event. Susan McFarland suggested the
Marriott living room as the venue.
Membership:
There was no report.
Simply Westlake:
Stephen Thornton brought a copy of the December issue. It includes the article about the
I.O.O.F cemetery and also one about Constitution Day in September authored by Susan. Susan
is collecting one copy of all past issues for the WHPS archives. WHPS has agreed to write two
articles for upcoming issues to coincide with Decoration Day and the dedication of the Circle T
Ranch historical marker. Daniel Zipperlen reported that his father has put him in touch with a
man who once lived on the Circle T Ranch. We are hopeful he will have stories to add to that
article. Paula Thornton said she has requested that Simply Westlake use our acorn logo and
attribute the articles to WHPS and not to us individually.
Website and Social Media:
Daniel Zipperlen reported that he plans to boost posts for upcoming events Decoration Day and
the marker dedication.
Susan McFarland reported that the Town has agreed that WHPS may use Paypal for
membership dues and the sale of books. Daniel Zipperlen will meet with the Town to
implement.
Historical Marker Dedication Day:
Dedication day for the Circle T Ranch historical marker is tentatively scheduled for Saturday,
April 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Paula Thornton is the chairperson.

Future Ideas and Purchases:
DAR:
President Thornton reported that he met with representatives of the Captain Molly Corbin
chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This DAR chapter, located in Grapevine,
would like to nominate WHPS for their annual historic preservation award.
Town Council presentation:
Susan McFarland reported that the Town Council would like to schedule the WHPS annual
review presentation for their March council meeting.
6. ADJOURNMENT
President Thornton asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting.
MOTION: Member Zipperlen made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Member Mason
seconded the motion. The motion carried.
President Thornton adjourned the meeting at 8:17 P.M.
The next scheduled meeting of the Westlake Historical Preservation Society Board will be
Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 7:00 PM.
