HomeMy WebLinkAboutPresentation Updated ISA and APPL 10-03-16International School’s Assessment (ISA) and Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) Historic Perspective for Administering the ISA in Grades 5, 8 and 10 •In 2010 Westlake Academy Board of Trustees wanted an international perspective and comparison of student achievement in IB World Schools. •Grade 5 and 8 were administered in 2011 and Grade 10 in 2014 •Scores from 2010-2011 through 2015-2016 have remained at or slightly above the world average TEA Development of the STAAR Program •TEA has made significant advances with STAAR in regard to the incorporation of problem solving, open- ended, inference and critical thinking. •TEA is continuing to shorten the duration of the STAAR. •The concepts and skills for improving student achievement in STAAR correlate to the ISA (Math: Geometry/Measurement, Reading: Inferencing/Interpretation/Poetry. Recommendations for the 2016-2017 SY 1.Postponing the Grade 5, 8 and 10 administration of ISA. 2.Minimize the amount of external assessments and thereby increase instructional time and resources. 3.Reflect and analyze data of the effects of one common assessment and to determine if we administer the ISA every second year and at which grade level 4.Determine the need for the ISA based on data from other assessments such as ACT/SAT. •Quantitatively measure Westlake Academy effectiveness in the Language B program •Provide information in relation to phasing for MYP students •Look for opportunities for advancement or remediation of students •Align the written curriculum within the department Historic Perspective for Administering the AAPPL in Grades 5, 6,7,8 and 9 1)Continue to develop the written curriculum in the Language B program 2)Test students in Grade 5 & 6 to assist with program phasing for the MYP students 3)Change testing date to early February Recommendations for the 2016-2017 SY
