In accordance with the Texas Election Code, results of the May 7, 2016, general election must be canvassed not earlier than the 3rd day or later than the 11th day after the election. Page 2 of 2 RECOMMENDATION Approve the ordinance canvassing the results of the May 7, 2016, General Election. WHEREAS, the Town Council called an ordered the General Election on January 25, 2016; and WHEREAS, the general election for the Town of Westlake as set forth by the Texas Election Code, was held on May 7, 201, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and two (2) Council Members for two (2) year terms; and WHEREAS, it is hereby found and determined that notice of the election was duly given in the form, manner and time required by law, and said election was in all respects legally held and conducted in accordance with applicable laws of the State of Texas and the proceedings governing the holding of such elections; and WHEREAS, such canvass shows the following results: Early Votes Cast Election Day Votes Total Mayor Laura Wheat Final numbers provided by the County on Monday, May 16, 2016. All of the recitals contained in the preamble of this ordinance are found to be true and are adopted as findings of fact and a part of this Town Council’s judgment. Ordinance 784 Page 2 of 2 SECTION 2: ELECTION CANVASSED AND DECLARED EFFECTIVE. It is further found and determined that the results of the election are as canvassed and tabulated in the preamble hereof and in Exhibit “A” attached hereto. The Town Council further finds the following: GENERAL ELECTION Laura Wheat has been elected as Mayor to a term expiring May 2018 Michael Barrett has been elected as Council Member to a term expiring May 2018 Alesa Belvedere has been elected as Council Member to a term expiring May 2018 SECTION 3: TOWN SECRETARY TO RECORD ELECTION RESULTS. The Town Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to make the appropriate entries of information appearing in the tabulation of precinct results shown in Exhibit “A” attached hereto in the election register maintained by the Town in accordance with provisions of Section 67.006 of the Election Code. SECTION 4: CITY STAFF TO TAKE NECESSARY ACTIONS TO GIVE EFFECT. The Town Manager, Town Secretary, and Town Attorney are hereby authorized and instructed to take all actions necessary to give effect to this ordinance and the election, as provided by law.
