HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 95-05 Support for the City of Southlake's Request to TxDot Expedite State Highway 114 ImprovementsTOWN OF WESTLAKE RESOLUTION NO. 95-5 RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE CITY OF SOUTHLAKE'S REQUEST TO THE TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO EXPEDITE STATE HIGHWAY 114 IMPROVEMENTS. WHEREAS, SH 114 is a roadway of regional significance that provides a major travel corridor through the Metroplex area; and WHEREAS, the City of Southlake and the surrounding municipalities have experienced significant growth in development which is anticipated to continue with projects such as the Texas Motor Speedway at SH 114 and IH -35W, the new Wal-Mart at SH 114 and Kimball Road, and the expansion of Maguire Thomas Partners' Solana development, which still contribute to the already existing high levels of traffic on SH 114; and WHEREAS, SH 114 through Southlake has a number of signalized intersections which, with increasing traffic, contribute to further congestion and motorist delay on the facility; and WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in late 1993 authorized the continuation of the SH 114 Freeway project from Dove Road to BS 114-L through Southlake for right-of-way acquisition and project development; and WHEREAS, the City of Southlake has identified strategic interchange improvements on SH 114 which would alleviate congestion on the facility and allow for the improvement flow of traffic and increased safety of the traveling public; and WHEREAS, the SH 114 right-of-way corridor through Southlake must be preserved to avoid future increased project costs because of ongoing and anticipated development along SH 114; and WHEREAS, the City of Southlake has Afered to contribute up to $1.0 million to prepare the engineering documents for the Kimball Road interchange and provide assistance to TxDOT to accelerate the right-of-way acquisition for this priority improvement; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Town of Westlake supports the efforts of the City of Southlake to be a financial partner with TxDOT to assist in expediting strategic improvements to SH 114 through Southlake. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Town urges TxDOT to respond favorably to the City of Southlake's request to expedite the SH 114 interchange improvements at Kimball Road by providing Fiscal Year 1997 construction funding, acquiring the identified right-of-way for this interchange project, and beginning the acquisition process to preserve the remaining SH 114 right-of-way corridor through the City of Southlake.
