In accordance with the Texas Election Code, results of the May 11, 2013, general election must be canvassed not later than the 11th day after the election. Both Denton and Tarrant counties provided official results that show Carol K. Langdon, Rick Rennhack, and Wayne Stoltenberg were elected by the citizens of Westlake. ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY/RECOMMENDATION Approve the ordinance canvassing the results of the May 11, 2013, General Election ATTACHMENTS Ordinance Exhibit A – official results (will follow under separate cover) Ordinance 704 Page 1 of 2 TOWN OF WESTLAKE ORDINANCE NO. 704 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD ON MAY 11, 2013, FOR THE ELECTION OF A THREE (3) COUNCIL MEMBERS TO TERMS EXPIRING MAY 2015. WHEREAS, the Town Council called an ordered the General Election on January 28, 2013; and WHEREAS, the general election for the Town of Westlake as set forth by the Texas Election Code, was held on May 11, 2013, for the purpose of electing three (3) Council Members for two (2) year terms; and WHEREAS, it is hereby found and determined that notice of the electio n was duly given in the form, manner and time required by law, and said election was in all respects legally held and conducted in accordance with applicable laws of the State of Texas and the proceedings governing the holding of such elections; and WHEREAS, such canvass shows the following results: Early Votes Cast Election Day Votes Total Council Member Wayne Stoltenberg 174 21 195 Carol K. All of the recitals contained in the preamble of this ordinance are found to be true and are adopted as findings of fact and a part of this Town Council’s judgment. SECTION 2: ELECTION CANVASSED AND DECLARED EFFECTIVE. It is further found and determined that the results of the election are as canvassed and tabulated in the preamble hereof and in Exhibit “A” attached hereto. The Town Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to make the appropriate entries of information appearing in the tabulation of precinct results shown in Exhibit “A” attached hereto in the election register maintained by the Town in accordance with provisions of Section 67.006 of the Election Code. SECTION 4: CITY STAFF TO TAKE NECESSARY ACTIONS TO GIVE EFFECT. The Town Manager, Town Secretary, and Town Attorney are hereby authorized and instructed to take all actions necessary to give effect to this ordinance and the election, as provided by law.
