PUBLIC ART SOCIETY OF WESTLAKE
BOARD MEETING
MAY 20, 2009
PRESENT: Michelle Corson, Mike Silliman, Kelly Cox, Debra Hale,
Shannon LaRue, Leah Rennhack, Dave Rollins,
Kay Anderson
ABSENT: Mary Petty
CALL MEETING TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM.
TRANSITION
Dave thanked Michelle for her leadership and dedication.
All board members expressed their gratitude to Michelle.
DISCUSSION
Dave reported that he attended the Town workshop on
May 18. At that meeting, he gave an update on the PAS.
The board needs to move towards making the PAS a
separate entity from the Town. Stan Lowry is reviewing
the by-laws. When the PAS becomes a 503(c)3, the board
must appoint a person who will be dedicated to all financial
matters or the PAS should use the Town auditor.
Dave reported that the lead time for the Precinct Line
expansion will be 18 months. He suggested that we get
involved as soon as possible to recommend a piece of art
on that road or at the entrance into Westlake. Kelly
recommended living material. She will contact a landscape
architect she knows from Austin to get his input. Another
suggestion was made to invite artists to come together in an
informal setting to propose ideas for public art.
All board members at the meeting were pleased with the
success and turn out for the Flamenco event. Kelly
received $600 at the event. She took the checks to the
Town office and gave copies to Dave. The board agreed
that a thank you note should be sent to everyone who
came. Kelly strongly recommended that the board pay
for valet parking for the next event.
Kay made the motion to elect Shannon as the new
treasurer. Michelle seconded the motion. Shannon was
elected treasurer and she graciously accepted.
Discussion of the Crow Collection documentary will be
on next month's agenda. Kelly has seen the film and
voiced her concern that the documentary may be too dry
for a featured event.
Michelle recommended that the board discuss the idea of
establishing standing committees at the next meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 8:36 PM. The next meeting will
held on June 17, 2009.
