WESTLAKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY
BOARD MEETING
NOVEMBER 15, 2005
PRESENT: President Kelly Bradley and Board members Vickey Smith, Tom Allen
Ruby Held, Jean Dwinnell, Town Liaison Carolyn Sims, and Pathfinder
Editor Joyce Roach
ABSENT: Board members Allen Heath, Stephen Thornton, and Jack Wiesman
OTHERS PRESENT:
1. CALL TO ORDER
President Bradley called the meeting to order at 6:16 p.m.
2. SECRETARY'S REPORT — Jean Dwinnell
a. Minutes
Ms. Smith moved, Mr. Allen seconded the motion to approve the Minutes of the
Westlake Historical Society held August 1, August 17, and October 3, 2005 as
presented.
There was no discussion and President Bradley declared the motion carried
unanimously
b. Membership
Secretary Jean Dwinnell advised the Board that the current membership was 74.
3. TREASURER'S REPORT — Tom Allen
The Board reviewed the report as presented and discussed the FY 200512006 budget.
4. ANNUAL MEETING REPORT -- Vickey Smith
Ms. Smith reported on the recent Annual Meeting. She advised that there were
approximately 50 people in attendance and that there was plenty of wine and food.
Ms. Smith thanked everyone on the Board for assisting with the Annual Meeting and
advised that she and President Bradley had sent "thank you" notes.
Discussion was held regarding the issues with the location of the Annual Meeting
including the difficulty the elderly had getting to the building from the parking lot and the
lack of signage. It was the consensus of the Board to include a map with the invitation
to future meetings.
5. PRESIDENT'S REPORT — Kelly Bradley
a. Newsletter
There was no discussion held on this item.
b. Pathfinder - distribution
President. Bradley invited the Board members that were available to stay after the
meeting to prepare the Pathfinderfor mailing.
C. Correspondence from other historical societies
President Bradley distributed newsletters from other Historical Societies and read an
invitation to Christmas and a 30 -Year Celebration at Tarrant County.
d. First American as possible sponsors
President Bradley advised the Board that she had scheduled a meeting with First
American to discuss their need for pictures and our need for a sponsor for the History
Book.
She further advised that she would be meeting with Texas Bank and Fidelity as well to
discuss sponsorship.
6. EDITOR'S REPORT — Joyce Gibson Roach
a. Pathfinder - editorial
There was no discussion held on this item.
b. Historical "5& Year" Book
Discussion was held regarding cost, anticipated date of completion, sponsors, editors to
handle different portions of the book, a questionnaire for residents only, and the location
of the family histories in the book.
Ms. Roach advised that she would be handling the book with each of the assigned
Editors one on one and that a "kick-off' meeting might be in order sometime in early
January with the Mayor, Town Manager, and the Board of Aldermen.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Next regular meeting date/time
Ms. Smith moved, Mr. Allen seconded the motion to suspend the December meeting.
There was no discussion and President Bradley declared the motion carried
unanimously.
8. ADJOURN
There being no further business, President Bradley declared the meeting adjourned at
7:35 p.m.
