HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-09-09 WHPS MinWestlake Historical and Preservation Society Westlake History Museum Minutes for March 9, 2009 Members Present: Kristi Layton, Jack Wiesman, Stephan Thornton, Lisa Councilman, Sharon Sanden, Heidi Kloempken 2. Members Absent: Ruby Held, Kelly Bradley, Teresa Walton 3. Non Members Present 4. Call to Order by President Sanden at 10:05 am 5. Minutes read by Secretary Kloempken. Motion to pass minutes by Member Councilman, Second by Member Layton. Motion passed. 6. Treasurer Report. Summary for February, membership drives successful. Report included plaques for museum, awards from annual meeting, and Junior Historian collage money. Treasurer Layton will send a more detailed museum expense report. a. Member Thornton motioned to approve report. Second by Secretary Kloempken. Motion passed. 7. Decoration Day — Member Walton (Chair of Decoration Day) was absent. Discussion on the expenses and how far back WHPS has been celebrating Decoration Day. a. Continued discussing events: Citizen Werst has poppies to give out for donations. Labels being made. Junior Historians to sell in the carpool line at Westlake Academy. b. Kiddie Parade to take place as well, just at cemetery and for children Grade 6 and younger. c. There will be a flag raising at 8 am (half mast), 12pm (full) and 6pm. No flag burning this year. d. Budget for items needed such as table decorations, paper products, hot dogs, and water. e. Publicity — There should be some continuity with who is taking charge of the signs and where they are stored. f. Entertainment — Chair Walton is open to suggestions. Member Wiesman knows of a Civil War historian who has researched the Civil War history of this area. He will contact Troy Meyer about this possibility. 8. History Book — The book is complete and in publishers hands. An e -blast was sent out regarding publication and reminders discussed in the last meeting. 9. Museum -- Member Thornton is concerned with changes taking place, with good intentions but wants to be aware of what is in the museum and what has been taken out. As the manager of the museum, he should be the person who is made aware of all changes and additions to museum. A concern with security, safety, and keeping items from getting lost. a. President Sanden mentioned it was nice to take items that are hers, from the museum to the school for students to view. b. Member Wiesman said everything should be catalogued and checked out if it leaves the museum. c. Member Thornton reiterated that it is important to be aware of what is happening with the items and needs to know in advance when items are moved around. It takes time to process new donations and surprise exhibits stall the process. There can be places for exhibits from Junior Historians, but the rest of the museum needs to be secured before that can start. d. Motion. Member Thornton motioned that whatever goes into the museum goes through the museum chair to establish communication. e. President Sanden motioned to table the motion until next meeting to think about it. Tabling motion second by Member Councilman. Motion passed. 10. Motion by Member Thornton to adjourn meeting. Motion second by Member Councilman. Meeting adjourned.
