WESTLAKE PUBLIC ART SOCIETY MEETING
February 21, 2012
Present: Bryan Biddle, Gail James, Kelly Cox, Trish Biddle, Amelia Johnson
Absent: Mike Silliman, Leah Rennhack, April Gallagher, Debra Hale
Others Present: Rebecca Neidich, Alison Ross
1. CALL TO ORDER
Meeting was called to order by President Biddle at 7:15 pm.
2. REVIEW AND APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE JANUARY 12, 2012 MEETING
Motion made by Director Johnson to approve, seconded by Director Cox. Motion carried 5 -0.
3. REVIEW AND DISCUSS THE WESTLAKE ACADEMY "ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE" PROGRESS
Artists have been saying the experience with AIR at Westlake Academy has been excellent. Director Cox reported that the
teachers and students were extremely pleased with the program as well. Next year we would like to have more live painting
at Gallery Night. Discussed $750 for frames to match donation of $750 from Fast Frames of Keller, if needed. Discussed
having an artists reception, and offering booth to AIR artists at Arbor days. 3 tents are available from the city. Motion made
to approve $750 for frames by Director Johnson, seconded by Director T. Biddle. Motion carried 5 -0.
4. REVIEW AND DISCUSS PARTICIPATION IN ARBOR DAYS AND ART CONTEST GUIDELINES
Discussed using a blind jury of 3 professional artists to determine winners . Age range for submissions 20,11 &12`h grades
DPR program at WA. Prize money of $50, $35, $25 for places 1 -3 to students, plus honorable mentions. 10 -12 art pieces
total for display, roughly 20x28, framed or gallery wrap. March 30 contest submissions deadline. Motion made to approve
prize amounts by Director Biddle, seconded by Director Cox. Motion carried 5 -0.
5. REVIEW AND DISCUSS NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Motion made to nominate Rebecca Neidich, Alison Ross to the WPAS board, and to remove Mike Silman from the board by
Director Biddle, seconded by Director Cox. Motion carried 5 -0.
6. REVIEW AND DISCUSS THE TREASURER'S REPORT
Director Johnson reported in her reported a $7,900 balance from funds provided by the Town of Westlake for the 2012
fiscal year 10/1/11- 9/30/12. No motion was made.
7. DISCUSS AND SCHEDULE NEXT MEETING
Discussed items to place on next meeting's Agenda: Artists in Residence wrap up /Art contest at Arbor Days/ WPAS Board
Member confirmation/ Brass name plates for WA /WPAS website and social media.
March 6, 2012, 7:00pm will be the next tentative meeting date for WPAS.
8. ADJOURN
Motion made by Director Biddle to adjourn meeting, seconded by Director T. Biddle.
President B. Biddle adjourned the meeting at 8:05 pm.
