HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-27-12 WHPS MinMINUTES OF THE WESTLAKE HISTORICAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY August 27, 2012 Westlake History Museum 3 Village Circle, Suite 104 PRESENT: President Bert Schultz, Kristi Layton, Karen Stoltenberg, Stephen Thornton 1. CALL TO ORDER. President Schultz called the meeting to order at 1:50 P.M. 2. MEETING MINUTES AND ACTION ITEM LIST Member Stoltenberg read the minutes. Member Schultz submitted two three ring binders containing flyers, programs and news items from the WHPS events for the Annual Periods 6/10-5/11 and 6/11- 5/12. Member Thornton recommended that we have 2 sets of photo books/DVDs of all of our previous events and window exhibits. President Schultz asked for a motion. MOTION: Member Thornton made a motion to approve the minutes. Member Layton seconded the motion. The motion carried. 3. TREASURER'S REPORT Member Layton read the Treasurer's Report. We had income of $6681.38 with expenses of $5334.06 for a net income of $1347.32. Our positive income every year has decreased our debt to the Town. Upon looking at the Porta Potty expense, Member Thornton recommended that we ask Troy Meyer how many we need at our events. Member Layton will inquire about the $1419.02 expense for the historical marker. MOTION: Member Thornton made a motion that we accept the Treasurer's report as read with noted comments. MEMBERSHIP REPORT Member Layton will send out a letter to our membership, asking for more Board members. Once we get more Board members, she would like someone else to take over as Membership Chair. She will also send out the letter for our Membership Drive. Member Stoltenberg volunteered to help. Jack Wiesman and Teresa Walton rejoined as members. S. HISTORICAL MARKER DEDICATION DAY Our next Historical Marker Dedication Day will be September 29, from 11:00 to 12:00 at the Solana Business Park, the sidewalk on the west side of Diego's. There will be an open invite for all attendees to eat lunch together at Diego's afterwards, dutch treat. Member Layton will invite the Solana owners to see if they will come and possibly say a few words. Members Stoltenberg and Brady will post flyers. 6. COMMITTEE REPORTS a) Museum BOD Expansion —The Town Council will vote tonight to increase our current number of BOD's from 7 to 9 due to the increased amount of WHPS activities and events. After the approval, we can proceed with a letter to recruit more board members. b) WA JR Historian Program — Christian McCarthy will be the sponsor for the J R Historian program. Our Board needs to come up with ideas for the program, and Mr. McCarthy will supervise. One of the ideas is for the JR Historian to facilitate the collecting of WA memorabilia from the past 10 years. c) 4Q Museum Window Exhibit — The current Texaco exhibit will be displayed through the end of September. For the next quarter, the display will be unique, distinctive antique place settings. Then, for Christmas, we will display Christmas place settings and a Christmas tree. We need to communicate with our membership, to see if anyone has a place setting they could share with the museum. Member Thornton knows of someone with antique sewing machines, as another possible window exhibit. d) 2022 Westlake Classic Car Show—The car show will be held Saturday, October 27. Registrations are flowing in and President Schultz has all awards and dash plaques. We will discuss more at our next meeting in September. There will be a maximum of 100 participants. e) Fall Living History Presentation —An Evening with Wyatt Earp will be held Tuesday, November 13. President Schultz will check the availability of the school. f) 2012 General Membership Meeting --The Board decided to have the meeting January 10 instead of November. Members Layton and Stoltenberg will work on a venue. WHPS Minutes 08/27/2012 Page 2 of 3 7. TROPHY CLUB PARTICIPATION President Schultz and Member Budarf have some ideas of potential board members. S. NEXT WHPS BOARD MEETING DATE The next meeting Will be held Monday, September 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Museum. 9. NEW BUSINESS There Was no new business to discuss. 10.
