What a pleasant surprise it was to see the two of you at the party last night. I'm glad that Annie
and I had the opportunity to finally say thank you in person. Your quick quick response and
professionalism that fateful morning back in July 2004 were key to my still being alive today.
,Gratefully, Paul Wright 817-891-3360

Subject: FW: Rescue story RE.- Work List
in 2_1004, a new Westlake family was spared tragedy by the nearly immediate response of the
Westlake rescue ream.
While the family was moving in, the youngest child., a Few days older than three, stumbled
into the swimming pool. The parents immed-ately missed the baby and the father dove in
and brought him up from the bottom of the pool. At nearly the same moment, the mother
phoned 911-1 and the Westlake fire and rescue professionals were on the scene. They checked
the young child and made a quick decision to engage Care [,'light. While we will never know
what might have happened without their expert care & professional decision-making, we do
know that their proximity 7,,Tas crucial, as they were able to take control, administer
oxygen, and manage distraugh'L parents in the midst of a crisis ,
in a recent survey, Westlake residents ranked safety at the top of their civic priorities.
As citizens, we have come to take our safety for granted due to the subconscious knowledge
of the constant vigil of our Westlake Fire and Rescue team. They are always visible and
nearby and we feel safe and comfortable in their shadow. Before we make an irreversible
change in our safety and response- time, we should be certain that citizens are
deliberately and ostensibly informed. Given a choice between safety in our literal
backyard or safety a few more minutes down the road, our citizenship might choose to fund
the fire department with a few dollars on their water bill or to sacrifice some other less
critical service or benefit-. As safety was Number One, let's outsource something other
than our top priority.

As Westlake employees, xve recognize the need to wear multiple hats. Helping other Departments
within the Town has become everyday business to us here at the Fire Station. We have worked hard to
erase the divisions within the staff organizational structure.Silos are being torn down and the firemen
have worked hard to indoctrinate a sense of direction to help meet the Town's vision and goals.
Listed here are extra duties performed by the Westlake Firemen, Without these duties performed, vxe
are only like any other Fire Department. With them we feel as if we are a part of a team;a team that can
include all divisions, departments, boards and councils within the Town.
