Minyard, Member Paul Isham, Town Attorney Dennis Wilson, Town Planner Karl Stundins, Town Planner Ginger Crosswy, Town Secretary Absent: Bill Greenwood, Member The meeting was called to order at 6:10 p.m. by Larla Bradshaw, Chairperson. Item #1: Consider the request of Maguire -Thomas Partners for a variance to the sign ordinance to permit PrimeCo to install a logo sign of 29.4 square feet with letters of 2 feet, 6 inches in height, on the exterior of 6 Campus Circle, Solana, Westlake, Texas, in accordance with the drawings prepared by Debra Nichols Design. The meeting was opened for public discussion of the request. Annette Bush, a resident of Westlake, asked why, when the Town establishes an ordinance, it isn't adhered to. Mrs. Bush stated that even though this sign is being compared with the Citicorp sign, which has previously received a variance, PrimeCo has less letters which would result in a larger sign. Ms. Bradshaw explained that the PrimeCo sign is proportionally taller with the increase in sign area being small. Mrs. Bush responded that the ordinance was written to make all signs the same and should be followed, as allowing a larger sign for PrimeCo was not fair to Citicorp and the other businesses in the area. Richard Kuhlman of Maguire -Thomas Partners spoke in favor of the requested variance, stating that the sign will be located 900 feet off Kirkwood Blvd. He told the Commission that the PrimeCo logo required a taller sign because of the capital letters in the name, whereas the letters in the Citicorp logo are all the same height. Dennis Wilson, the Town Planner, recommended approval by the Commission. Motion by Charla Bradshaw, seconded by B. J. Minyard, to recommend approval of the variance by the Board of Aldermen. Motion carried unanimously. Ms. Bradshaw asked if there was any other business to be brought before the Commission. Mr. Kuhlman gave a report as to the status of the new buildings Maguire - Thomas Partners is planning to build in Solana.
