BOARD OF ALDERMEN, BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THE WESTLAKE
ACADEMY FOUNDATION WORKSHOP
September 17, 2007
PRESENT: Mayor Scott Bradley and Aldermen Larry Corson, April Gallagher, Don Redding,
Pete Steger, and Bob Timmerman.
ABSENT: None.
WESTLAKE ACADEMY
FOUNDATION: President Chris Noonan, Members Bill Greenwood, David Lee, Julie
Timmerman, Laura Wheat, and Executive Director Angie Gofredo.
STAFF PRESENT: Town Manager Trent Petty, Head of School Barbara Brizuela, Town
Secretary Kim Sutter, Finance Director Debbie Piper, Human
Resource Manager Todd Wood. Facilities and Recreation Director
Troy Meyer. Executive Assistant Ginger Aw-try, DPS Director Don
Wilson. Michael Bennett, Principal Gideon Toal, Bob Bowen,
Manhattan Construction Company.

CALL TO ORDER.
Mayor Bradley called the workshop to order a, 7:23 p.m.
2. DISCUSS PROPOSED ARTS AND SCIENCE CENTER.
Mr. Michael Bennett, Gideon Toal, and Mr. Bob Bowen of Manhattan Construction
presented the proposed arts and science center project to those in attendance.
Mr. Bennett and Mr. Bowen outlined the proposed building footprint in relation to the
existing campus layout, the appearance of the building and elevations, and advised that 90%
of the project will be competitively bid.
Mr. Bennett and Mr. Bowen addressed questions from the audience.

Additionally, the Mayor, Board of Aldermen, and Staff addressed questions from the
audience regarding funding for the project.
Westlake Academy Foundation President Chris Noonan and fundraising Co-chairs, Bill
Greenwood and Laura Wheat spoke regarding the fundraising efforts by the Foundation.
Ms. Wheat advised that the total of cash and pledges raised to date for the project is
$780,000.
After a lengthy question and answer session, Mayor Bradley advised that an item would be
included on future board agendas to receive an update on the proposed project.
Mayor Bradley expressed his appreciation to Mr. Bennett and Mr. Bowen for their
informational presentation regarding the project.
3. ADJOURNMENT.
There being no further business to come before the Board, Mayor Bradley declared the
workshop adjourned at 9:47 p.m.

1. CALL TO ORDER.
Mayor Bradley called the workshop to order at 6:08 p.m.
2. DISCUSS TOWN OF WESTLAKE PROPOSED BUDGET FOR FISCAL YEAR
OCTOBER 1, 2007 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2008.
Mayor Bradley introduced the item and opened the floor for discussion.
Town Manager Petty responded to questions from the Board regarding (a) the request to add
two employees, (b) Town employee salaries and allocation of salaries across funds. (c) the
use of contractors and consultants, and (d) the capital project plan.
3. REVIEW PROPOSED EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL FOR THE UPCOMING BOND
ELECTION.
Town Manager Petty advised the Board that a draft of the proposed fact sheet has been
prepared, and provided a copy to the Board and members in the audience.

The Board chose to defer discussion on the item to a later date in order to convene the joint
workshop meeting with the Westlake Academy Foundation.
4. ADJOURNMENT.
There being no further business to come before the Board, Mayor Bradley declared the
workshop adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
