Dear Scott,
May 11, 1998
Sorry I can't make the meeting tonight but business calls. and I am on the way to
Houston
Regarding the Sept. 28 Supreme Court session at Baylor Law School, it occurred to me
that this was a chance to teach the kids in the area something about law.
I thought the Westlake First Committee might invite some seniors from each of the four
area high schools --Keller, Carroll, Northwest and Fossil Ridge -- to come with us down
to the session at Baylor and not only see the Supreme Court in action but also tour the
campus, etc. etc.
I checked with the law school there and found that the courtroom has only 115 seats
and they are already getting requests for space from the news media who want to cover
the court's first session outside of Austin.
I asked if it would be possible to reserve a block of seats for Westlake citizens and
students from the four schools and they said this had never been requested before, but
they would check into it and get back to me. I have asked for 50 seats, including 20 for
the students.
I have not yet had a chance to check with the local schools for any expression of
interest, and will wait to do so until I hear what Baylor Law can and/or will do for us. But
you might tell everyone that it will probably be hard to get into the session and doubly so
if we cannot reserve seats -- so plan on leaving early.
If we can get seats reserved and if the local schools show any interest, we would have
to leave the Westlakelhigh schools by about 7 p.m. to get to Baylor by 9-9:30 to make
the session at 10 a.m..
For the students, Baylor will provide a 90 minute tour of the campus after lunch. We'd
have to eat on our own between the end of the session and 1 p.m.. Buses could leave
Baylor at 2:45 and drop off at the schools between 4:30 and 5 p.m.
If all this works our, I can draft a little brochure for the students (and anyone else)
} explaining what has led to the Supreme Court getting involved.

Comments, suggestions, questions or any other input welcomed from yourself, the
aldermen or the audience would be appreciated.
