HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-24-77 TC MinMEETING OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN TOWN OF WESTLAKE, TEXAS A regular called meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Westlake, Texas was held on February 24, 1977 at the Dudley Ranch in Westlake. The meeting was open to the public, as required by Texas law, and advance notice of the time, place and purpose of said meeting was posted in three public places within the Town limits. The following were presents Dale L. White, Mayor Howard Dudley, Mayor Pro Tem B. H. Campbell, Alderman 0. R. Carpenter, Alderman Alvin F. Oien Jr., Alderman Arvel Tate Sr., Alderman Paul C. Isham, Town Attorney Gerry White, Town Secretary Also presents Several citizens of the Town of Westlake. The meeting was called to order by Mayor White at 7:30 p.m. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the Secretary and approved as read. Mr. V.R. Henderson, representing Lone Star Gas Company, appeared before the Board of Aldermen and presented Lone Star's request for a rate increase. A lengthy question and answer period followed. After this discussion, Alderman Carpenter made a motion to approve the rate increase as proposed. Mayor Pro Tem Dudley seconded the motion. Aldermen Carpenter and Dudley voted for; Aldermen Campbell, Oien and Tate voted against. Motion failed to carry. Alderman Oien moved to pass and approve Ordinance A99, an ordinance by the Town Council of the Town of Westla ems, Texas calling and order- ing an election to be held on the 2nd day of April, 1977 at the Foster Ranch in Westlake, for the purpose of electing three (3) Aldermen for the Town of Westlake, in accordance with the provisions of Articles 978 and 1144, V. T. C. S.1 establishing the hours and place for said election; providing for the posting in three public places in the town as notice of said election; appointing Louvernia Foster Presiding Judge and LaVerda Bowden as her alternate; directing the Town Secretary to make up the official ballots, causing the same to be printed and delivered to the presiding officer; providing for the canvassing of the returns of the :Taction and declaring the results of same by the Town Council, and declaring an effective date. Motion was seconded by Alderman Campbell. Motion carried unanimously. There was discussion concerning the Revenue Sharing money designated to buy signs. Mayor Pro Tem Dudley made a motion that the Town Secretary purchase: several city limit's signs, a street name sign to place at the corner of Dove Road and Precinct Line Road, and a street name sign to place at the corner of Dove Road and Roberts Wood Road. The motion was seconded by Alderman Carpenter and carried unanimously. The Secretary informed the Board of Aldermen of the amount of money in the Town's checking account. Discussion followed after which Alderman Tate moved that the Town Secretary invest $2000.00 in Certificates of Deposit for the Town of Westlake. Motion was seconded by Alderman Dudley and carried unanimously. Whereas the Fire Departments of Roanoke and Southlake have responded to grass fires in our town, Mayor Pro Tem Dudley suggested that the Town of Westlake should in some manner thank them. Motion was made by Alderman Cambell to donate $250.00 to the Roanoke Volunteer Fire Department and $250.00 to the Southlake Volunteer Fire Department. Alderman Tate seconded the motion which carried unanimously. There being no further business the Mayor adjourned the meeting. Attest: Wanda G.
