HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-21-59 TC Min SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD OF ALDERMEN FEBRUARY 21, 1959 A special meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Westlake, Texas, was held at the Circle "T" Ranch heacquarters on the 21st day of February, 1959, at 2 o' clock p.m. pursuant to a call of the Mayor, written notice of which was mailed to all of the Aldermen February 17, 1959. Present were John A. McGuire, Mayor, and Messrs. Ben A. Zwald, H. P . Thrasher, Conway Phillips and A. L. Odom, Ald- ermen. The Mayor called the meeting to order and announced that a quorum existed for the transaction of business. He fur- ther stated that he had an affidavit from Mr. William L. Mc- Inerney that written notice of this meeting was mailed by him to all of the Aldermen and the Mayor on February 17, 1959, and asked the secretary to attach it to the minutes of this meeting. The Mayor then asked Mr. William L. McInerney, who was present, to act as Secretary of the meeting and take the minutes of the meeting. The Mayor then stated that he had the written resig- nation of E. E. Garrett, the Town Marshal, who had submitted his resignation and moved from the Town of Westlake. The Mayor then read to the meeting such letter of resignation which, upon motion duly made by Mr. H. P . Thrasher and seconded by Mr. Con- way Phillips, was unanimously accepted. The Mayor then directed 138 RESOLUTION NO. 4 WHEREAS, on the 1st day of April, A. D. 1958, pursuant to the provisions of Title 28, Revised Civil Statutes, the Elec- tion Code of the State of Texas, and Resolution No. 3, heretofore adopted on the 8th day of February, 1958s after due notice as by law provided, the General Election to Elect a Mayor, Five Alder- men and a Marshal for a term of one year was held within the lim- its of the Torn of Westlake, Texas; and WHEREAS, on the 26th day of April, A. D. 1958, at a meeting of the Board of Aldermen of said Town, the results of said Election were canvassed by the Mayor in the presence of the Board of Aldermen and said canvass showed the result thereof was as follows: FOR MAYOR John A. McGuire 20 votes FOR ALDERMEN George Harmon, Jr. 10 votes H. P. Thrasher 10 votes Ben A. Zwald . 10 votes Conway Phillips 10 votes A. L. Odom 10 votes • FOP, MARSHAL E. E. Garrett 10 votes THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN OF THE TOWN OF WESTLAKE, TEXAS: THAT, the canvass of the result of said election be, and is hereby approved, and that Jo.-In A. McGuire having received the highest number of votes for the office of Mayor is hereby elected to said office and is to serve as such officer for the term of one year from date hereof or until his successor is duly elected and qualified. THAT, George Harmon, Jr. , H. P. Thrasher, Ben A. Zwald, Conway Phillips, and A. L. Odom having received the highest number of votes for the office of Aldermen and E. E. Garrett having re- ceived the highest number of votes for Marshal are hereby elected to said offices and are to serve as such officers for the term of x one year from date hereof or until their successors are duly elected and qualified. THAT, all such officers are hereby instructed to take the oath of office as by law provided and file such oaths with the Town Secretary. ADOPTED this 26th day of April, 1958, APPROVED: ATTEST: OR Upon motion duly made by Mr. Ben A. Zwald and seconded by Mr. George Harmon, Jr. , the foregoing Resolution No. 4 was unani- mously adopted. The Mayor then announced that it was now in order for the newly elected officers to take over the management of the town and that he would be glad to entertain a motion for ad- journment of this meeting.
