WESTLAKE ACADEMY
BOARD OF TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING
MAY 59 2008
PRESENT: President Scott Bradley and Trustees Larry Corson, Kevin Maynard, Don
Redding, and Pete Steger.
ABSENT: Trustee Bob Timmerman.
OTHERS PRESENT: Head of School Barbara Brizuela, Board Attorney Stan Lowry,
Secretary Kim Sutter, Facilities and Recreation Director Troy
Meyer, DPS Director Don Wilson, Finance Director Debbie
Piper, Director of Administrative Services Todd Wood, and
Assistant to the Town Manager Ginger Awtry.
1. CALL TO ORDER.
President Bradley called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.
2. CITIZENS' PRESENTATIONS.
There was no one present wishing to address the Board.
3. HEAR REPORT FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL REGARDING THE STATUS
OF LAST CHARTER AMENDMENT BOUNDARY REQUEST.
Head of School Brizuela advised that the TEA has approved the amendment request
submitted in January 2008 to expand the boundaries of the Academy to offer the IB
Diploma Programme to more public school districts. Mrs. Brizuela advised that the
amendment is effective June 1, 2008.
4. HEAR REPORT FROM STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE SPAIN
STUDENT EXCHANGE.
Head of School Brizuela introduced Teacher Danielle Lira, and students Chelsea Cooper
(G10), Noah Rollins (G10), and Conner Lenio (G10).

Ms. Lira addressed the Board regarding the item, and advised the Board that Westlake
Academy students will leave in two (2) weeks for Madrid, Spain.
Chelsea, Noah, and Conner shared their experiences with the Board regarding the recent
visit by Spain exchange students to the area.
5. HEAR REPORT REGARDING THE INAUGURAL SEASON OF THE
WESTLAKE BASEBALL TEAM.
Head Coach Greg Ziegler of the Westlake baseball team addressed the Board regarding
the item. Coach Zeigler reviewed the season with the Board, and announced the teams
record of 4 wins, 3 losses and one tie.
Coach Ziegler introduced the following members of the Baseball team:
- Alex Reynolds (G6), Center Field, Second Base and Pitcher
- Tyler Turbeville (G6), First Base,
- Zack Ziegler (G7), Scorekeeper
- Tucker McFarlane (G8)
- Ramsey Timmerman (G8), Outfielder
- Nick Ford (G9), Outfielder
Coach Ziegler presented Trustees and staff with an official Westlake Academy baseball
cap.
The following team members were not present:
- Patrick Watson (G9), Bain Howard (G9), Taylor Stevens (G9), Jake Hamilton
(G6), Hayden Sanders (G6), Stephen Jolissaint (G6), Chandler Vilbig (G8),
Collin Zielger (G4), David Turbeville (G4), and Juan Rubayo (G5).
6. HEAR REPORT REGARDING STUDENT ART WORK IN THE SOUTHLAKE
ART IN THE SQUARE EVENT.
Westlake Academy Teacher Gail James and Casey Timmerman (G9) were present to
address the Board regarding the item.
Ms. Gail James advised the Board that five students submitted artwork for this years
show and all were accepted. Ms. James announced that Stefi Schultz (G10) placed 1St in
the 9 -10th grade category, and that Joelle Jung (G9), Corey Timmerman (G9) and Nicole
Stevens (G9) also displayed art in the show.
Casey Timmerman advised the Board that she was awarded an Honorable Mention for
her artwork.

7. CONSENT AGENDA.
President Bradley introduced the item and asked for a motion.
A. Review and approve minutes of the School Board of Trustees regular meeting held
on April 14, 2008.
B. Review and approve any outstanding bills.
MOTION: Trustee Redding made a motion to approve the consent agenda as
presented. Trustee Steger seconded the motion. The motion carried by a
vote of 5-0.
8. ADJOURNMENT.
There being no further business, President Bradley adjourned the meeting at 6:33 p.m.
