SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
November 17, 2003

Item #,1: President Bradley called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. by announcing a quorum of all
Board members.
Item #2: The Board convened into executive session at 6:32 p.m. as President Bradley read the items to
be discussed. The Board reconvened into open session at 6:58 p.m.
Item #3: No action was needed coming out of executive session.
Item #4: Citizens' Presentation. Ms. Sharon Meyer of 1925 N. Peytonville Road in Southlake spoke to
the Board regarding some concerns she had which included: Agendas not posted on the website;
forming a PTA; music program; social activities for next years seventh graders; exit interviews with
parents withdrawing their children from the Academy; the confusing grading system; among others.
Item #5: Mayor Bradley recognized the following members of the Westlake Academy Foundation Board
for their hard work in staging Gallery Day: Juan Fontanes, Dana McGowan, Becky Rogers, Kelly
Bradley and Chairman Michelle Corson. Ms. Michelle Corson, Chairman of the Westlake Academy
Foundation, presented the piano the Foundation purchased to the Academy. She gave an update on the
success of Gallery Day recently held by the Foundation and the programs and events the Foundation is
planning for the future.
Item 46: Consent agenda. There was a motion by Mr. Frey, seconded by Mr. Brown, to approve the
consent agenda, which included the following:
A. Review and approve minutes of the regular meeting held on October 13, 2003.
There was no discussion and the motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Petty announced to the audience that J.T. Ottinger Road would be closed between Knox Road and
Belaire beginning on November 18 and November 30th. He suggested alternate routes for anyone
traveling that section to and from the Academy.

Mr. Petty also announced that the Westlake Academy would be holding their Christmas Cantata on
December 11 and the Town would be hosting an open house at the new Town Hall on that same
evening.
Item #7: There was a motion by Mr. Brown, seconded by Mr. Sparrow, to adjourn. The motion carried
unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m.
Approved by the School Board on January 12, 2004.
