HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-20-11 WPAS MinMINUTES WESTLAKE PUBLIC ART SOCIETY MEETING SEPTEMBER 20, 2011 PRESENT: Bryan Biddle, Kelly Cox, April Gallagher, Debra Hale, Gail James, Amelia Johnson, Leah Rennhack and Mike Silliman ABSENT: Trish Biddle OTHERS PRESENT: Amanda DeGann 1. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by President Biddle at 7:07 p.m. 2. REVIEW AND APPROVE THE MINUTES FROM THE AUGUST 23, 2011 MEETING. Motion made by Director Johnson to approve. Motion seconded by Director Hale. Motion carried 8-0. 3. REVIEW AND DISCUSS THE WESTLAKE ACADEMY "ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE" APPROACHING WA STAFF AND ARTISTS. Discussion ensued regarding confirmed Artists in Residence: Arthur Murray and Trish Biddle. The following suggestions were made: Information packets for Artists, feedback from teachers, possible artists to ask. Director Biddle will be heading up this initiative. No motion was made. 4. REVIEW AND DISCUSS PARTICIPATION IN THE MASTERWORK CONCERT SERIES WITH ARTS COUNCIL NORTHEAST. Discussion ensued regarding the Masterwork Concert Series being already funded by the Town of Westlake. WPAS is welcome to join in helping the Town with funding and staffing the Concert Series. Amanda DeGann explained the town has seen dwindling interest in this series. If the Concert Series is to grow as a community event the town will need additional groups to help. Possibly moving some of the concerts to other sites such as Glenwyck Park or at Westlake Academy. Discussions included searching for some kid friendly bands. Director Silliman suggested Maguire Partners should have links for these events on their website. No Motion was made. 5. REVIEW AND DISCUSS STATUS ON ACQUIRING FUNDING FOR POTENTIAL PUBLIC ART SCULPTURE COMMISSIONS ON STREETSCAPES IN WESTLAKE. Director Biddle met with Town Manager Brymer and it was suggested not to approach Waste Management at this time as they are currently involved in the supporting the Baja event. Amanda DeGann suggested that we send a representative to the BOA meeting on Monday, September 26tH WPAS Minutes 09/20/11 Page 1 of 2 FM 1938 Streetscaping plan will be discussed at that meeting. No Motion was made 6. REVIEW AND DISCUSS FALL 2012 MUSIC/FOOD/ART FESTIVAL — BANDANA BONANZA PLANS. Discussion ensued regarding partnering a Music/Food/Art Festival with Bandana Bonanza. Previous discussions with the HOC have led us to believe that they are not interested in partnering with WPAS for this event. A suggestion was made to partner with Arbor Days. Ms. DeGann thought that Troy Meyers would appreciate the help. It was suggested that we invite Troy Meyers to our next meeting to discuss. No Motion was made 7. REVIEW AND DISCUSS THE TREASURER'S REPORT Director Johnson reported a zero balance. We are currently approved for $10,000.00 for the next fiscal year 10/1/2011 through 9/30/2012. Motion made by Director Cox to approve the September 20, 2011, Treasurer's Report. Seconded by Director Rennhack. Motion passed 8-0 8. REVIEW AND DISCUSS THE MEMBERSHIP REPORT No Membership Report at this present this time. 9. DISCUSS AND SCHEDULE NEXT MEETING. Discussion ensued on the next meeting date. Thursday, October 27, 2011, 7:00 p.m. will be the next meeting date for WPAS. 10. ADJOURN Motion made by Director Cox to adjourn meeting. Seconded by Director Silliman. President B. Biddle adjourned the meeting at 8:07 p.m. APPROVED BY THE BOARD ON 11/3 , 2011. WPAS Minutes 09/20/11 Page 2 of 2
