HomeMy WebLinkAboutAM Charter Cable Franchise agreementTOWN OF WESTLAKE 0 To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the Board of Aldermen From: Trent Petty, Town Manager Date: January 5, 2005 Subject: Regular meeting of January 10, 2005 I Consider a Resolution authorizing an extension of the Charter Cable Franchise agreement until November 17, 2005. Staff recommends approval. The current franchise for Charter Communications expired on September 12, 2003. Since that time the Town has petitioned Charter Communications to honor the requirements of their franchise by extending service to residents of Westlake that are not currently served, in particular the Vaquero and Stagecoach Hills subdivisions. Charter has to date refused to serve these subdivisions without excessive charges for the extension. The Government Services manager for Charter, Blake Cummins has left Charter and been replaced by Ms. Sharon Wilson. Staff met with Ms. Wilson on December 15th and was told that Charter did indeed intend to extend service to Stagecoach Hills and Vaquero in 2005 and would work to identify any other users in Westlake that are not currently being served. Staff agreed to recommend an extension to the existing franchise under these circumstances and recommends the extension terminate November 17, 2005. This gives Charter and the staff almost a year to complete the new franchise agreement and provides service to areas which have long been overlooked by Charter in the meantime.
